ON R.I.P Rosita. (Aftermath Pics)

On the highway on Wednesday evening (heavy downpour) and hydroplaned through a big puddle, swerved out, and ended up in the median after a couple of spins.

Luckily noone was hurt (Miraculous testament to the car's safety i guess, and my luck) and no other cars were affected.
Probably the scariest experience of my life. Was absolutely thrilled to find out that my passenger was okay and so was I. Definitely puts things in perspective for you.

Waiting to hear back from the appraisers as to whether its a write-off or not.

Any advice at all on body shops? or on insurance?
If it comes to a write-off, how does one figure out a fair amount?

Any way this can be blamed on the huge puddle on the QEW to prevent my premium from skyrocketing?

Glad you are ok. This car is incredibly protective of it's occupants.

You are probably out of luck on premiums, unless your insurance company treats you well. Usually will be deemed as "traveling too fast for conditions", even if your speed was slow, it wasn't slow enough (according to the insurance company). How is the tread depth on the rear tires? The fronts look fine, but usually when I see these stories about hydroplaning and spinning one or more times, the rear tread is almost gone, and the front tires are fine but the rear hydroplanes.

That sucks. Were there any drains in that area? I don't know the laws up there, but down here if there is an engineering structual defect you could probably sue if you can prove it. Glad to hear everyone's ok.

I really hope they didn't tow it like that. This car is supposed to be flat bedded, or at least towed with the rear wheels up. That can cause damage your drivetrain.

Nasty, write-off maybe not it depends on the mechanical / structural damage. I once t-boned a guy in a six week old car $18,000 in damage and the Insurance fixed it on the other guys dime.
^ tow trucker assumed FWD it's Japanese it must be.

The rear tread had about 30% left on it.

That's definihtely a good point about the towing. I didn't realize till the next day how stupid it was not to get a flatbed. Was still definitely in shock till I figured it out.

The tow truck driver didn't have much of a choice. I was on the fast lane of the highway and he needed to get us to a safer place ASAP.

I couldn't open the driver's door.. which leads me to believe that the frame is probably twisted up. I don't know how easy that is to put back together.

Waiting on a call from the appraiser.

Best advice i can give is do not take the first offer they give you if it's totaled. Insurance companies like to make money, and an easy way to keep that money is to low-ball.

It doesn't look like the airbags went off... Thats usually a good sign that they will fix the car, as long as there isn't engine/frame damage.

For your insurance price increase as of renewal I'd have to have more info about your driving history to know if your price would go up (insurance salesman over here) so if you have any questions just PM me

Like others have said, you're premium increase will depend on your relationship with your insurance company and your record/history. They might have a "freebie" if it's your first claim.

But either way, I'm pretty certain you'll be deemed 100% at fault for the reasons others stated above. It sucks unfortunately

Anyway, if it makes you feel better, I learned something new from your thread! Newbie getting my rx8 tonight - I didn't know about the towing issue.
