Price Comparo: 350z vs G35C vs STi vs S2000 vs RX8 Canada/USA

I think these cars have all compared to each other, performance wise anyway. What I wanted to see was how the prices of these 5 stacked up against each other North and South of the border. I tried my best to provide equal models North and South and I'm using the MSRP price only:

Code:
Model    CDN        US         USD->CDN   Difference
G35      $47,700.00 $32,700.00 $44,967.41 $ 2,732.59
350Z     $45,400.00 $30,630.00 $42,120.84 $ 3,279.16
Sti      $46,995.00 $32,195.00 $44,272.95 $ 2,722.05
S2000    $49,000.00 $32,800.00 $45,104.92 $ 3,895.08
RX8      $40,595.00 $30,680.00 $42,189.60 $(1,594.60)

        USD->CDN:    1.37515
The first thing I noticed is how much difference there is between the RX-8 and everything else in Canada, but not so much in the US. Less than $3000 is all that separates between top and bottom, where in Canada it's over $8000.

The second thing is that the RX8 is the only car that is cheaper in Canada than in the States!

Conclusions? Yes these 5 should be compared to in the States, but up here, the price can't be beat. What does $5000 buy you? $100 difference in payments a month for starters (60 months). So the next time someone south of the border says you should have bought a Z, let them know that it's not JUST about the car, it's about the $ too!

Very interesting comparison. I knew the RX8 was cheaper here but didn't realize how significant the difference was. The car really is a steal up here in Canada -eh!

I must admit that I ran thru the same analysis and it did figure into my buying decision. If the G35 were cheaper, I still would probably have gone with the 8, although it might have been a bit more of a horserace.

As the numbers came in, one has to realize that the 8 is top-drawer car at a bargain-basement price. Altho I don't think Infiniti is shaking in its boots just yet, I did see for the very first time an Infiniti (national ad not dealer ad) advertisement with a reduced lease rate. This just one month after Mazda's national ad campaign hit. Coincidence? I think not!

Good post! I never considered any of those others seriously when I was buying my 8, but I did compare the US to Canadian prices - last summer, when the exchange rate was over 1.5, it was an even more incredible deal - at 1.5, the US price was equivalent to $46K Canadian, meaning that buying in Canada saved $3900 Cdn over the same car in the US!!

Even now, it's still a much better bargain in Canada - impossible to beat.

Regards,
Gordon

Not to mention that insurance rates are cheapest for the 8. And now to top it all off, there is an extra charge for vehicles with large displacement engines to register. Does this mean that with only 1.3l of displacement, the 8 will cost less than g35 for plates?

It really matters what I wish to do with the car.

As a daily drive: Rx8 or G35

To Fix up: 350z or Rx8 or STI

Just personal taste and opinon...
