LOL holy crap - that is one expensive mazda 6... you'd think the frigging car was built from GOLD at that price.
OMVIC is gonna tear them to shreds - they've been really active in their enforcements as of late (several dealerships around me have been getting slapped with fines).

alright.. the dealership is shifty... not arguing.
....but the woman is an idiot. She didn't do her research, she bought on an impulse, she didn't question anything.. and wtf is she doing buying a car for that much money when she's on disability to start with! Also Ontario has a purchase protection policy that ensures that a buyer can return any purchase within 7 days. This also applies to cars. I'm guessing she was happy with everything until the first bill came in.
I'm sick of having to pay (one way or another) to protect idiots from themselves.

I was wondering as well if her disability (this article indicates she has a intelligence disorder of some unknown type) is that bad how does she even have a drivers license!?!?
BTW it was also on the 640 AM today from 10am to 11am on the Stafford show.
However I would like to say that, when you go in to any place of business you may think that you could be getting a bit ripped off on something........
But this is wayyyyy over the top for a place of legal business, I mean really its pretty dishonest of these guys, the only thing they were missing was the white van....
"Psssst hey, hey lady, do you need to buy some speakers?"
Anyways in the end, I'm just sssssooooOOOOOoooOOOOO happy that this dealership is getting some bad press

FYI buying a car is like buying a house, there aint no 7 day return period once you sign the contract if all the conditions of that contract are met. Rev I dont quite agree about your statement of the woman. Even if she is an idiot etc, there are limitations of what a moral business will charge for things. If a customer came in to our store, we would not charge double administration fee's (we dont even charge one to begin with) or aftermarket market items such as rustproofing for 2 or 3 times their actual fair market price. I think if the investigation grows more will come out of the woodwork....................

Sorry... you're right. That doesn't fall under the cool down period. Once she takes delivery of the car (still a couple of day's later) she's stuck with it.
Like I said at the beginning though... I'm not disagreeing that the dealership wasn't shifty or ratbastardish, but it still doesn't change the fact that she's an idiot, or if she does have some form of mental disorder, then she is unfit to enter such a contract in the first place and like wcs said.. most likely shouldn't be driving.

In an article they said she has an intellectual disability, but it doesn't say it's to the point that her signature is not binding, otherwise the deal would have been reversed. Obviously there was a major ethical problem, but there is no law that says something has to sell for any particular price. I don't understand how the dealership employees could be criminally charged. A lot of the rules that related to the creation of OMVIC seem a tad vague.
How many people go out and buy a 2 year old Accord for $2k less than new and then finance it for 80 months at 8% through the bank, instead of buying a new one at a low financing rate? Is the dealership responsible to explain what qualifies as a smart decision?
Demos are often not good deals anyway. They try to sell them for list, minus $0.10/km ($600 off for 6k) and no freight. I've seen lots of people do this. It doesn't make sense, because as we all know a used car would usually sell for significantly less. Lots of people go into crazy financing situations, trade in vehicles that have big loans that far exceed the value of the vehicle, etc. A lot of car buyers leverage themselves very heavily, much more than you'd think. At what point should the dealership tell them not to buy?

Welp.. there are all sorts of consumer laws in Ontario... and they if they truely did misrepresent the car as being new that breaks a number of those rules. Not too mention it's fraud.

I thought about this more and realize I was missing something very obvious. The articles kept saying she was on disability earning a low income and couldn't afford the car. Clearly the dealership fudged her credit application, which is fraud. Bankers, F&I people, etc. all over North America do it every day (anyone remember 2008?), but this was obviously an extreme case.
The $66k figure is not directly comparable to $41k because of stuff the F&I office sold, taxes and interest over 72 months.

hey if its a demo and they sell it as a used car , you sell it for whatever price you want and if someone bites they bite.. thats all legal, but if sold as a demo and used the mazda financing plan say 0% well than thats over msrp and they deserve to rott... second as uninteligent as she may be, she still drove her self to a dealership therefor knew what she was doing when signing the paper.. unless she thought it was a contract for tires lol... in the end good result glad they are done... i used to work at a dealership and our boss used to yell at us to say you **** around with omvic rules you're out lol
