Here the exact Bill: Yipee
It's about time we join the rest of the civilized world!

Subject: Bill 118 passed, no more using hand-held cell phones while
driving

The Legislative Assembly of Ontario carried Bill 118, an amendment to
the Highway Traffic Act now bans drivers from using hand-held devices
with display screens while operating a vehicle on the road. The bill has
undergone several revisions during its consideration, but the new rules
of the road will be as follows:
- Holding or using a wireless communication device (a cell phone) or a
portable electronic entertainment device (iPod) while driving is
prohibited.
- Commercial GPS units along with similar dashboard-mounted devices that
provide gauges and displays relating to logistical or navigation uses
are fine.
- Using a cell phone or wireless communication device in hands-free
mode, as long as you're not holding it during use, is fine.
- Using any device while pulled-over or parked in a way that you are not
disrupting traffic, is fine.
- The systems used by Ambulances, Fire Departments, and Law Enforcement
are exempt.
The ban is in effect as October 28, 2009 and will carry a fine of $500.
Demerit points will not be included, but depending upon the violation,
police will have the option to also use existing careless driving laws
for additional penalties.

But there giving us a few weeks grace just warnings for now no fine till mid to late October.

Also Posted in RX8 Sighting Thread!

cell phones ban(handheld devices) what the issue?
It will make the roads safer for all of us. Maybe people will actually pay attention to their driving instead of texting some other idiot(who is probably also driving) while driving in the left (passing) lane at 60-80 km with a line of traffic behind them a mile long with no one in front of them for another mile.... enough is enough.
Admit it we all been there^

You can still use your handheld device just hand-free e.g. bluetooth, headsets etc.

Just read the statistics, this should have been done a long time ago!

Remember that studies have been made that a handless phone conversation is only 30% better than a cell phone.

Why? Too many distractions. People concentrate on talking and not driving.

I find female drivers doing their make-up or fixing their hair in their vanity or rear-view mirror even worse actually. They'll take BOTH hands AND eyes off the wheel/road and turn their complete attention to their make-up etc.

some people need to get some common sense and realize what's more important...their looks or their lives...

Bout time for you guys!
Wish my state would adopt it.
The FEDs in the US are working on legislation banning texting and I hope they at least time all handheld devices in with that......including cellphones. It's not a perfect solution, but it's a start. Saw that cellphone/others now account for up to 30% of all accidents in the US and studies show it's worse than driving over .08 alcohol limit that most states here have.

I'm always telling people...........STFU, HTFU, and DRIVE!
And....I don't care what mad skills you think you possess.

Yeah.. this scares me more then anything. At least with cellphones drivers are sorta looking ahead at least... I remember coming down the 404 one day and saw this car drift inbetween two lanes then go back into their own lane.. was fine for a moment or so then started drifting again and again. I got close enough to see that the whole thing was cause by a woman applying eye liner while she was driving. She was driving at 100kmp while looking into the rearview which she directed towards herself and would spend 1-2 seconds at a time looking into it before looking back at the road. Pure freakin' insanity. I slowed right the hell down and kept her infront.. no way I wanted her to slam into the back of my car... some people have absolutely no sense of what's important.
