My new girl <3 RX8 R3

2009 RX8 R3
44000kms
Payed 16k
Flawless compression test
Needs new plugs and air filter
Window tint
4 19in Blizzaks (hopefully won't have to use them)

Anyone else in Calgary?

P.S. Anyone know where to get these parts for cheap? The dealer wants 300$ for the plugs and 50$ for the filter which is a scam.

NGK Iridium plugs
OEM Air Filter

Thanks, guys I just sent an email to Mazmart to find out how much shipping to Canada will be.

Two question that maybe you guys can help with.

The car is at 44k kms and is do for new plugs, i'm just wondering if I should do the coils and wires too? or would they still be good?

Also, will it be ok if I put winter tires on my 19in rims or should I opt for 17in steelies? The only reason is that I already have blizzaks for my 19s.

Thanks for the help

Read the whole thing. But post #3 has answers to your ignition questions.

It's recommended to change plugs/coils at the same time. Wires can wait for every 2nd change

Hello,
I am from Toronto, I have moved here and currently am building contacts in the sports car industry. I am looking for some direction as to where I can get mazda parts (I install myself). Currently I'm looking for a new black bumper, too many chips and nicks in it.
I sincerely appreciate all assistance.

WOW what a great deal! 16k for an 09 R3 thats amazing! If I had found one around here for that price I wouldve upgraded. Go on ebay you can order oem mazda ignition coils with ngk wires and plugs delivered to your door for 340$ and change them yourself in 1 hour.

Gratz dude, enjoy the ride

Yeah, the 16k was awesome. I had it compression tested(asked specifically for the exact numbers and rpm they tested at) and got a mechanical inspection from mazda before I got her. Everything is in pretty good shape, I do have a lot of rock chips on the front bumper though. The reason for the great price was that it was a private sale and I was the pretty much the only person in Calgary who was looking for 8s.

I just ordered plugs and a new air filter from mazmart and am also looking into a BHR ignition kit.

Re: the wheels, two aspects to consider. 1) quality - 19" winter tires are better than all-season / summer tires, but technically 17's would probably provide slightly better winter handling. Maybe the difference is barely significant, but if it's any difference, you'd want it right? (Not sure how crazy your winters might get in Calgary, but for the little snow I've driven in, I would say the "wrong" sized tires would be nice. 2) convenience - you're obviously going to have summer tires on your 19's, do you want to have to swap them off twice a year? Not likely. You want to whip of your summers, and pop on your winters. That was enough to convince me to buy two sets, at any rate.

Thanks Maitre, I appreciate the advice. I'm only actually going to be in Calgary for one more winter though therefore I don't see the reason to buy new rims just for the one winter. I will try and minimize my use of the 8 during the winter though. She'll be in the garage as much as possible.

Calgary winters are pretty brutal, mostly i'm worried that other people will hit me as it turns into a *hit show when the white fluffly stuff comes falling down and everyone forgets how to drive.

Check the price difference between 19 and 17" snow tires. The difference will go a long way toward buying a set of used rims for snow duty. Don't even think about running summer tires below about 8 deg C, even if streets are clear of snow/ice.

I have 19inch Blizzaks. That's why I am reluctant to go buy new 17 inch rims + 17 inch Blizzaks.

Haha I know right. I've realized that buying cars is a lot like dating. You've got to take a test drive, show interest and then ignore them a few weeks till they come crawling back to you xD Then when they do, you say yaaa i'll think about it and then wait for their last ditch effort to pull you in. Got her down from 19.5k to 16k that's with the 4 blizzaks included(only used 1 season).

Awesome car friend... the front look of your car is really edgy, and the color is killer red.

Congrats on your purchase. I've bought from Rockauto in the past. I remember them having good pricing for plugs and wires.

Welcome to the club man. The black really looks good, that was my first choice but then went with red (and personally happy I did). I'm about to get my calipers painted red and think red calipers would look awesome on your car too. Enjoy the ride.

If you already have 19 inch Blizzaks just pick up a set of cheap aluminum rims in that size. You can get these for around $600-700.

I would not want to risk the original rims by swapping tires 2x/year. Those are some VERY expensive rims (made by BBS for Mazda), so just put on a good set of summer tires on and keep 'em on till you need new ones.
