I bought mine in 2008. Around spring 2009, it started to develop a rattle. The rattle is not heat shields, or broken chunks of the CAT. It's a rattle cause by cracked welds between the final exhaust tips and the canisters (before the bend).

At first, I thought it may have been a manufacturing defect, so under MS parts 1 year warranty, I had mine replaced in spring 2009.

Now onto my 2nd MS Exhaust, the rattle is back, and the same issue is happening. The same welds are cracking making the exhaust tips dislocate themselves from the canister slowly.

The rattling noise occurs only under load between 1000 - 2000 rpm, and it happens again somewhere between 2200 - 2800 rpm. There are precisely two frequencies to which it rattles. Therefore, in city driving during rush hour, you look like a ricer with a shitty *** exhaust as it rattles everytime you move 10 ft and stop.

The rattling sounds like a tin can ringing. After one drives the car for awhile and the exhaust is all up to temp, if you stop to get out and kick the tips you can hear the same rattle.

The solution is to reinforce the joint with additional welding. I had the joint welded with additional solder today, and it fixed the rattling.

I hope this information is useful for someone in the future.

Car is:
- Canadian winter climate
- Daily driven

I don't know if environmental factors play a role in the rapid deterioration of the weld joints.
Did you reuse the spring bolts when you installed the exhaust? The whole exhaust system needs to flex when doing WOT and such so it's a good idea to reuse the spring bolts. If you didn't then that would explain the cracks.

When I took my exhaust apart I don't remeber any spring bolts. There was just one connection after the catalytic converter where the new MS exhaust pipe bolted on. The rest was just rubber hangers that held the system in place.

The rattle isn't coming from the connection between the CAT and the pipe. Regardless, the new spring bolts were used.

I read that your exhaust were welded between exhaust tips and canister.

Did you get welded 'outside' of the exhaust?

I see a little gap in the exhaust tips where tips and canister meets.

I guess the gap causes rattle.

Right tip

Left tip

no it's not the inside that needs to be welded. it's the outside. it's after the bend, like I said where the exhaust pipe meets the canisters. You need to reinforce the weld all around on the outside.

stock exhaust has never known to rattle... it's built to LAST. I will guess that the stock exhaust is constructed with more materials and reinforcement as its built to last. Both the MS and the stock are the same material but the MS is lighter, thus less material.

Using GReddy SP2 here. No issues. Though, my exhaust has never seen winter.
You wont have any issues with the greddy. IMO the best sounding exhaust. Your shrouds may melt if you run your car hard for a while.....mine did
