I got my letter friday as well. The car is having the tests done at Markham Mazda on monday morning. I wouldn't mind a new motor, except for the down time.

I complained about this during the ususal "how was our service" phone call late last week and have not had a call back. I am located south west so if you are looking to this way for an alternative ... think twice. If I hear back I will update.

I made the recall appointment for Wednesday and they said it would take a full day. I asked about a rental and they said they would "provide" one at cost. A quick call to Mazda Canada confirms that they don't usually provide vehicles for recall but they are definitely doing it in this case. It sounds like Mazda Canada has a sheet together outlining what HAS to be done at the dealer. I was given a name and phone extension and told to tell the service manager to give me the free rental and have him call the rep. I'll bet gas/wash is on that sheet too.

I brought mine in to Scarboro Mazda in the morning. They can't say how long it'll take since they don't know what repairs are needed until the tests are run. But on my work order I got the recall, rental, gas top up, and detailing (wash and vacuum I take it). I've been taking my car there for service since day one and haven't had any problems with them. Kudos to the service team there!

I would love to know what the dealership applied back to Mazda Canada for when they did my warranty work. If they got the $ for the car wash and the gas I would be pretty pissed. Any way to find out?

BTW when they did my car I had just dropped it off for an oil change at about 1 ... the called at 3 and it was ready ... guess the tests went well????

ahh lol. You are the 'other' rx8 that goes there.

Scarborough. Such a great town that their dealership only services 3 or less RX8s.

Markham Mazda called me back this evening. My car was totally fine (only 37,000 in 15 months) so all I got was the PCM reprogram and a gassing, washing, vaccing session.

Received the letter last week, took the car into Scarboro Mazda today and the PCM service was fine. They topped-up the gas tank, cleaned the car inside and out and offered the rental car which I declined seeing as I work an easy shuttle ride away. Unfortunately, they also told me it's time to get new tires; a purchase I will postpone until the spring at $3-400/tire.

Took my car into Lallo Mazda in Brantford today. Same response, they are unsure how long it will take. That is fine, as long as it comes out working. They gave me a Chevy HHR as a rental.. i'm not used to driving such a big car(?).

I'm crossing my fingers that they clean my car and fill up the gas tank, but i'm not expecting that.

Also mentioned a rattle near the sunroof buttons.. hopefully they can tighten something around there to make it go away.

for just getting the recall checked out you won;t get a rental. If they have to replace your engine you will get one.

I don't ever let the dealership wash my car.

I am taking mine to Gyro Mazda in Toronto, and they offered up the rental car as soon as I booked the appointment.

umm, I did. Gave me a sexxy Hyundai Accent for 2 days.
Didn't cost me a cent. Oh wait, I had to put 5 bucks in the gas tank.

Gawd I wish my 8 had mileage like that little thing lol.

Haha I did better than you Rufnek, I got an Elantra, hahahaha
I'd be happier with the 8's mileage if it can put out say 40 more lb-ft of low end torque, hehehe...but it's a wicked cool car nonetheless. And they finally released the 8 in the Xmen 2 colour, or is this old news already?

Anyways, on my work order each item (recall, rental, gas, vacuum) was listed very clearly, and I remember seeing the cost for each item listed on the warranty copy. My copy of course just said N/C for all items. So for anyone else who's going for the recall and want to know the cost of things, it should all be there.

My car just got the PCM flash, no plugs or anything. I don't feel any difference driving it, which is a good thing I guess, at least nothing broken :p

I just took mine in this morning for the recall. When I booked the appointment last week I said I needed a loaner to get to work and they said no problem.
Got a CX-7 for the day - not too bad for an SUV/CUV....has some nice mid-range punch
Haven't heard anything from the dealership - I'll update this post if they do anything major. Most likely I won't need much done since i got new plugs months ago.

Thank god I can take my HHR back.

Just got my rx8 back and everything was ok. Had to get new spark plugs and reprogrammed.

The best part was that they washed and detailed and filled up the gas tank.

Good job lallo, i am happy!

I had only the spark plugs replaced, everything else checked out.
They did clean my interior (but not the exterior) and topped up the tank.
There was also a quick survey to fill out on how I liked the loaner CX-7 - seems everyone should be getting this treatment....sorry to hear other dealerships out west aren't doing the same.

No new engines yet eh?

Does anybody have any idea why some cars are getting flashed and plugs, and others are just getting flashed? Is it a '04 vs. '05+ thing?

Avante did my recall. No car wash or topping up the gas tank either. Plus the test drive was performed in the rain through a construction zone, so now the bottom half of my car is **COVERED IN MUD**. Good thing I'm planning to zaino the car over the long weekend, so I'm not too concerned.

If you have already had the updated version of the plugs and the car has never been floded you don't need new plugs. That is way I only got the flash--I had my plugs replaced in June--free of charge as i was under the new buyers program

I never received a notice either. However I did bring the car in to the dealer when I heard about the recall. I am having my engine replaced right now.

I'm dropping mine off tonight at Mazda 2-20 Ile Perrot. I hope I get the "white glove treatment". When I called the Dealer today, they said that they haven't had to replace any motors yet. My 05 runs AMAZING, I really dont think I'll have any repairs done, probably just the flash.

It would appear that the majority of the engine replacements are happening in the US, whereas, we are mostly just getting the PCM flash and/or new plugs.

I am guessing it has to do with the hotter US climates that result in the engines running hotter and causing more problems with the emissions, but I could be wrong.
