Question Letters--4206F Recall

Hey Gang,

Any Canadian owners get the latest recall notice yet? You know the new flash, cat, plugs, and possible engine one. I have not got it yet. Just wondering if anyone in Canada has.

No letter, yet.

Of course, you just know that they'll release it in the dead of winter in Canada to make it all that more easier to get the work done...

Recall work starting?

I took my RX-8 in for the dealer to fix my key fob which has stopped working. I tried a new battery in it and it still wouldn't operate the locks. While I'm there this morning the service manager says they want to run some engine checks on it. I've received no recall notice in the mail. WTF?

I posted this last week when i brought her in for service last week, in the thread " Road trip Milage, CEL, new flash"

""""Well guys Sophia is back from her service, i got a few small things looked at, a 32,000km service, and installed my new CF wing (not alined good on my brothers side) but anywho. regarding gas smell in the oil, i did take a sample befor i went in so Db if you wanna compair it to urs thats cool (i also went 6,000km inbetween oil change not 8k). when i did go in the service lady could not see what flash the car had that ajaxs mazda did, what she did say is that there is a new flash for your car and its for drivability, and she said that this flash will not dump as much gas in the engine(i have to assume she knows, cause i dont know what this flash dose)

On the work order line D: 4206F drivability recall.

do any of you know if 4206F is the name of the flash or just the recall campaign number?

when i was driving it back to work the car did seem a bit stronger, and just to make sure it was not wishful thinking my bro also drove it and i told him nothin about the flash, he even said it seens to pull a bit hard (i let him drive it too, so he know what the car is also like)

tlovr out"""""

so i got the new flash last week, and i assume i'm one of the ones the don't need a new engine , and no i did not get a letter, i just brought her in for 32,000km service

Recall

I just gave Mazda Canada a call eventhough I'm currently on business Estonia for the next 2 weeks...just too curious after reading the latest post on the US side. I was told that Mazda Canada is only starting to plan their recall and expect to issue it soon. She wouldn't say when nor confirm if it would be the same offer i.e. free courtesy car, wash and gas etc. We'll just have to wait. Since I didn't have my VIN handy she could not cofirm if prior recalls have gone out for mine. Since I only bought my 04 GT 2 months ago I have no idea. Anyone knows if there were any past recalls?

Welcome NOOB!! hope your enjoying your sexy new car.

an easy way is to do a search on the forum, but the easiest way i think is to just go to the dealer and ask, they will know for sure and prob be a lil more accurate

Really?

So, I get a call this afternoon from the dealer. Expecting that they will tell me that they fixed the key fob and the little engine tests indicated nothing I was not prepared for their diagnosis.
"Mr. Railton, it's quite likely that we will need to replace your engine. Can you leave it over night so that we can call the tech center to ask them what we should try next on your car?"

Hey Gang,

Just an FYI--I called my Dealer--Avante Mazda in Richmond hill they said no need to wait for the letter just bring it in all parts and test procedures are there. I made an appointment for next Thursday at 9am. I will keep you posted on the outcome. The process should take about 1.5 hours--provide I don't need a new engine.
My service guy said so far they have serviced 20 cars and have only had to replace one engine.

I'm going in on Monday. Got to say though, I have been complaining about a kind of valve knocking sound for some time and everyone says its the VFADs. How coincidental that I am also sensing a slight loss of power too

I'll let y'all know what transpired.

Regards,

Dropped my '06 off at Weber Motors in Edmonton yesterday for it's first oil change. They did the 4206F Recall without even informing me until I went to pick it up. They told me my car passed the test and they gave it the reflash. Anyway, it appears dealerships know about this and will do the work if you take your car in, no letter required.

I went into the Orangeville Mazda dealer last friday (auto levelling issue with the headlights) and with me I brought all the recall notices (4206f) found in the Mazda recall thread.
They claimed to know nothing about it, I handed the papers over to the mechanic that typically works on the RX8's for him read.
I must admit I wasn't surprised, not once have they known about a TSB before me and not once have I been completely satisfied with the work performed but that's not to say they suck .... mmmm 5 out 10
However that being said I strongly suspect I will have no issue with my car. It seems (knock on wood) to be running beautifully! (26000km purchase Feb 2005)

20 services

A friend of mine went to look at the '06 CP shinka last weekend...
He asked the Used Car manager if he knew of the recall and the "tool" seemed clueless, so I am shocked to learn that they have completed service on 20 cars with regard to the recall.....

Downtown Mazda in Toronto said they did about 20 cars already and have run out of some parts that's why they couldn't take me in tomorrow and had to wait until Monday.

They seem well aware of what this TSB is all about and what need to be done about it.

Taking my 8 into Gyro Mazda for the 8 Mth/16000K (even though I only have 7000K on it) next week. On the phone, service said they'd "heard something" but didn't know anything concrete. They suggested I wait until I get my letter and then bring it in for the maintenance AND the recall work.

No power loss, no hard starts just those damn noisy brakes! I'm bringing in the TSB on the brakes. I'll do the recall when the letter gets here.

Recall

Called Mazda Canada regarding the recall and they told me to expect a letter this week but I don't need it to have the recall done. Apparently this recall is considered an emmission recall only where they will check and replace the catalytic converter if necc., check starter and spark plugs and flash for less gas at start-up to counter the flooding issue. That's it..no engine replacement/compression test or extension to powertrain warranty at this point.

I call my dealer to see if I could get it done this Friday during my oil change appointment and they said no problem. Asked if it would be a long wait and was told Mazda had arranged for courtesy car and I should have my car back at the end of the day. Will keep you guys posted.

Charles

^^^ If what Chasvo is saying is correct, then we are getting a screwed compared to our American counterparts (I at least want the compression test to check things out, not to mention extended warranty). Based on the tech diagnostic tree, if you say that you haven't experienced any power loss or low idle concerns ... they will only do the cat, plugs and flash.

Yea it's considered a voluntary emission recall ... but it's to correct the potential damage caused by previous flashes, so why wouldn't you want to make sure everything is ok.

EDIT: Here is the link to all the PDFs that the dealers got including the tech diagnostic tree

Got the flash and the plugs done. Not sure if anything else because they had a system problem and were going to mail the work sheet to my house.

Car seems a tad more responsive, but I still get that fluttering sound like its pingly lightly but frequently. They say its the FVADs but I don't know....

I for one would not be too happy if they tell me I need a new engine...of course I may feal differently if they replace it say during year 5 It's the fact that our friends south of the border is getting their warranty extended and we don't..yet that seems unfair. Wonder if there is anything we can do as a group? We're looking at the same car, same continent, similar climate etc. are we not?

Didn't get the recall notice in the mail today, but did get a bunch of coupons from the dealer's service department. One of them was $200 off the warranty extension!

As I prep for my 8 month service....anybody have any clue why the steering wheel would sharply pull to the right during low speed breaking? Stuck caliper, bad pad, etc?

Thanks!
