The engine is covered by an extended warranty. 8 years 100,000 miles.

It depends. The warranty he is talking about is really only US spec 8s. Some Canadian dealers honor it, others don't. And that is just the engine core, your extended warranty probably covers alot of other components as well.

Whether or not you wasted it probably depends on what happens down the road, and how much you are paying for it.

Arroo? The warranty is for north america, I don't see how a dealer up here could not honour it... sure they might give you the run around, but they all do that. Were there cases where a qualified engine was denied warranty by MNAO up here?

BTW, kenken, keep all your service receipts. Oil change, etc...

One of the Canadian regulars can correct me if I am wrong, but from what I have read in past threads, yes, Canadian dealers have not always been honoring the warranty.

This one for example: https://www.rx8club.com/rx-8-discussion-3/rx-8-horrible-experience-198415/

Granted, that is a rotten dealership, but the OP does state that he discovered that the extended core warranty is at the dealer's discretion.

All warranty is at the dealer / Mazda Head Office discretion. Generally they want to see reciepts for oil changes and all that other crap. Canada has the exact same warranty as the US... it's just that Mazda is trying to save money and not being so quick to approve claims.

kenken... if you got the extended warranty that just makes life a bit eaiser for you going forward... and if it covers things outside of the engine core.. you're laughing. Congrats on the purchase.

I bought the comprehensive warranty, so the parts that do not include are things like wear and tear parts.

I guess I am good to go!
