Engine replacement is approved. Just waiting for the engine to arrive at Scarboro Mazda now and then things will get rolling.

Need some input here. Originally scheduled to drop off the car tomorrow at avante for a diagnosis comp test etc. They (Ted the manager to be specific) quoted me 310. No problem i said. Ill have the car there friday morning.

Now people are telling me Scarboro charged them 109 for a simple one hour compression test. I just got off the phone with a service guy and he quoted me 218. I said i know numerous people who were charged 109 for a hour rate. He said they were undercharged and it is now a 2 hour rate.

How can you charge me a 2 hour rate for something that takes no longer than an hour that i can do myself in my garage with the right equipment. This was dealing with some random cause Mark is away on vacation.

Options are:

1) bring it in to avante tomorrow. See what Ted says about the 109 pricing.

2) Wait till the 15th when Mark comes back at Scarboro

Scarboro Mazda charged me 2 hours as well and the tech took his sweet time. It took him 2.5 hours to do the test.

I did my compression test around March at Scarboro Mazda, and it took nearly 2.5 hours too.

Does anyone know where to get a compression test done for $109 near KW, Mississauga area?

I just changed my plugs, coils, and wires and now im having issues hot starting. Before my car started in about 3-4 sec of cranking when warm, but now it barely starts after 5-8 sec of cranking.

I also do not want to take my car back to my local dealer as they do not seem knowledgeable with rotaries.

Last time i was there it took them 3+ hours to do an oil change and when i removed my air box to change the coils, there was oil in the air box, filter (which they replaced), and accordion pipe (sign of overfilling). I cleaned it with brake cleaner, but it was still kinda "wet" when i put it back together. I think this might have something to do with it as well.

My car has about 161 XXX km on the original engine. I also think that my cat might be clogged (which i need to check) and have stopped driving the car since suspecting this.

My Dealer is quoting $218 + hst

Why don't you start by process of elimination? Starter? Open your cat open? Clean your MAF sensor?

^I have found a dealer near me that will do it for $109, but they are booked till the 13th of may. In the meantime I will check the otherthings you mentioned. Hopefully my engine is fine.

So, i tried to hot start the car again today, and it worked fine. I think the brake cleaner i used didn't quite dry up before i put the parts back together and was probably causing the issue.

Another Option for you guys looking for a compression test. Can-Saf Auto in oshawa.
Our compression test gives you readings for each face of each rotor. Test is about $155 that is cold and hot test.

Here is a sample of the print out..
