Floor mat thingies

Did other people get the little metal piece that is supposed to hold the driver's floor mat in place?
I've seen pictures of the piece in the American discussions, but they didn't find one in my car, and bgparsons3 didn't have one in his either.

Is it a thin black metal strip, about 6" long and 1" wide, 2 slight bends in the middle?

There was one of those loose in my trunk along with the front license plate bracket (Alberta doesn't issue front plates, so the brackets are never installed) and 3 towing eyes. I haven't got through the manual, so I don't know what that black piece is for yet!

Link to picture/thread where this was discussed?

Regards,
Gordon

That sounds like it would be the piece. Was it in the bag with the plate holder, or just completely loose?

The discussion, including picture is here:

Yup, it's the piece that was shown in that thread - floor mat holder! It was loose in the trunk well, as were the tie-down hooks - I just stowed it around the jack for now.

Jasper - just realised my front mats are attached to a restraint up under the dash, but as you said, not at the seat. Result is the mats can't ride backward (toward the driver) but they do bunch up under the pedals.

Anyone with an update on the availability of the floor mat restraints in Canada?

Actually, I'd forgotten but I was talking to the dealer on monday, and he said that the floormat restraints that were sent won't work with the seats and floormats that came with the car. Can anyone who actually has their restraint confirm this?

I can confirm that - I received the piece with my car, but there's no way it fits. The drivers mat has a hole towards the left rear of the mat, but the only place remotely possible for the restraint to mount is behind the centre of the mat (there's a plug holding down the carpet under the seat. The possible mounting point for the restraint and the hole in the mat don't match up at all.

Gordon

Seems like there's an opening where you would anchor that floor mat piece under the driver's seat, but seems like you have to remove it to access it. Probably doesn't work, if not, the port would have installed it.

I would think this would be a recall level concern. Floor mats bunching up under the brake would be a safety concern and NHTSA would have a say in this.
