DIY Front Brakes Cost

Hey guys

Just trying to price out what new OEM style front pads and rotors would cost me in parts in the GTA if I do the work myself?

Anyone have any ideas on cost and where to order/buy from?

I order all my parts from Online Mazda Parts . Take 4-5 days to get here, 40% off compared to dealership prices.

Front pads - $71 per set
Front rotors - $100 each

You can probably get away with resurfacing the rotors if it looks okay.

Total should come out to around $300 after shipping. They might charge extra for shipping rotors since they weight a ton. E-mail them to find out.

Thanks, those are good prices.

This is the first time I've had to replace the brakes since I bought the car (68000 km). I think the Rotors are still pretty smooth, not sure how to tell when they need to be fixed.

I can do the pads, but don't have the right tools to machine the rotors sadly

often times places like parts source will machine rotors for you. you take them off and bring them in and they will cut them for you while you wait. last i heard they were charging like 15 bucks or so.

The online prices are not much less than we can sell you Hawk Ceramic brake pads for. Do you want OEM rotors or something a little better? Dont cut the factory rotors, they are thin from the factory and will warp the 1st time you get them really hot.

WTF???
Then why the hell did you ask?

Your opening comment says trying to price out "OEM Style" ...... style means anything like OEM ... now your saying OEM Rotors are fine in your books.

Why not just ask for pads then?

New stock rotors are good.....
I bought a set of brake pads from cobalt friction .......

Dude holy **** they changed the brake characteristics big time.....
I luv'em and hate'em both at the sametime

edit:
I'm north of Toronto but I'm willing to meet up if you want to experience what I'm talking about with brake force change....

Hello

Trying to price out some front rotors in the GTA. Anyone used any AIMCO or Wagner parts? They are 'cheap', but I don't want to get something that is crap steel that warps in 5K.

Dealership is telling me the stock rotors are approx $215 each and that seems pretty high to me.

Hmm, thats expensive.
Hell, for way less you can get some of the stock replacement rotors from Racing Brake. And you know that'll be quality stuff!

i've machined my rotors twice now they are quite thin but have had a few track days with the slicks and they've yet to warp. but have noticed they over heat quicker.

It's a great combo for daily driving LOL. Haven't tried track yet, but will let you know when I do. I would think that the regular HPS Hawk's would be much better on the track.

I am also looking for rotors. Mine are done after 40k on the street and about 15 track days. I can`t afford anything high end so looking for stock or similar. Al, what did you refer to as better than stock?

Anyone tried, Centric Premium NON-slotted Rotors?

P.S

On the pads, I often pick up oem pads for around 25-35USD on the forums, if you look at the classifieds you may get a good deal. I run oem on the street and and had good experiences with Carbotech XP10 / XP8 on the track.

136 per rotor is reasonable. Anyone know better deals for them? What kind of experience do people have with powerslot? Rust issues? Quality of materials? Anyone track them?

Thanks for the help.

Neo, I can't afford racing brake (nor do I feel the need for extra performance right now - stock rotors and xp10 carbotech worked well)

I'm not saying get the BBK. You can get stock sized rotors from them.

Its been a while since I did mine. Before I opened the thread I was thinking I spent like $250 for front pads and rotors. After reading the other posts it appears as though I was right on.

Neo, apologize for being slow. Do you have a link to their stock sized rotors that don't cost 300 a pop?
