ON Come on Spring.......

Hey Guys,

Im dying to pull my 8 out of storage. Just curious what plan's you guys got for your 8's this season? Here are a couple of mine.

-Possibly remove my black vynal stripes
-add 5-10mm of spacers all around
-lower the rear another inch if possible with my existing suspension
-Create a custom shift ****
-Maybe a front lip, if a good deal steps my way

Feel free to leave some comments of plans you have for your 8's and or what you hope to see from the club this season.

Mike.

Well i am still driving mine. I have a ton of things i am doing though between now and May. I really can't wait to get these ugly steelies off my car.

-Coilovers, energy suspension sway bar bushings, AP adjustable endlinks.
-Redline swap for trans/diff. Have to do an e-test as well this month for my sticker!
-Re-medy water pump, replacing all hoses, coolant flush obviously. Belts.
-Finish grounding kit, catch can, throttle body bypass
-Sohn
-Clutch re-inforcement, Syncro-saver
-Racing Beat Rev8 catback
-Prosport gauges
-Black RPF1's 18x9.5

Is there ever any action on our side of the border for track events? I have never been to the track and is definately on my list of to-do this season.

Take care.

Can't wait to drive manual again. Only new part I intend on putting on is Tokico D-Spec springs and shocks. Then it's windshield replacement.

For sure
- New catalyst for BHR midpipe
- New rubber for the stock rims
- 20mm spacers
- Raising the car .5 of an inch
- A full polishing to remove swirl marks
- Plastidip all black external trim since it seems to be fading
- Foglight rewire
- Back to stock intake (There will be an AEM intake in the FS section this summer)
- Maintenance

Maybe
- Corner balance
- Racing Beat catback
- Opticoat

For me it's just replacing worn out or almost worn out items. Toyo R1Rs and Carbotech AX6 brake pads. Then just basic maintenance items.

Surgeblade, check out the racing school that Ontario Time Attack (time-attack.ca) has in May. Very worthwhile - then check out their time attack events, CSCS's time attack, and APEX track days.

So much to do this spring:
BHR ignition
Transmission and diff fluid
Suspension - coilovers if I can afford....otherwise a nicer setup than stock
Test to see if a cai would be effective or not.
Borla exhaust
And potentially switch to synthetic oil -10w30 or 40.

If by effective you mean it makes a better noise, then yes, a CAI would be effective.

Totally feel that. Mine's stored kind of far, so can't just go visit it every day, otherwise I'd have done all this already.

- Front lip and rear flares to complete the appearance package
- Coolant flush
- new track wheels & stickies
- Brake pads & fluid change
- Some kind of motor mount upgrade .. maybe
- Decat midpipe for track days
- Another pass of MM tuning

Event registrations are starting to light up already, hitting all the early bird specials

Lol - fair enough, I just want to test to see if I can simulate larger air flow and look for hesitation in the engine when WOT. If no hesitation, then I'll buy a CAI...if there is hesitation, then probably get some new air filters/cabin filters...

say no to the synthetic oil plan. Revi, AEM/MS CAI will get you some gains outside of just noise, others can lose HP

Planning to get BHR Ignition set for this spring, that's pretty much it for me. Is there any group buy plan for the BHR ignition kit?

Maintenance stuff mainly like changing fluids.
Get my rear coilovers on.
Side skirt repainted (I bottomed out downtown ouchie!) And maybe some other faded panels.
Put summer tires back on.
Get rims touched up from previous owner curbing them.
Install OBX header I picked up super cheap.

Otherwise I already got done the things I wanted like a SOHN and putting front coilovers on.

You're not gonna get anymore than MAYBE 5 horsepower. That's not enough even for the butt dyno to feel.

I did look at the REVi as the CAI of choice. Others I've heard stories about...(my boss flooded the engine after getting a carwash and the water froze on his MS CAI)...Canadian living...
But still, it's expensive for arguably minimal gains... will come last in my list after I test if my car even needs one.
As for synthetic....Mazda Japan has recommended 0W30 syn. This leads me to believe 5W20 isn't thick enough nor the right oil for the car built in Japan.

my butt is a dynojet and reads higher

In all seriousness, I agree the 2-5hp is negligible especially on its own.... as part of an overall package it does help. I picked up the AEM CAI and BHR pipe because (1) the sound can deceive the mind into thinking the gain was more significant (that is until you're WOT beside a minivan and not pulling ahead) and (2) I believe in leaning out A/F ratios for improved performance and economy for daily driving

I had a CAI on my Matrix XRS (Celica GTS engine) and CSX Type S and the sound improvement made the car feel like it had gained 10-15% more power even though it was actually 1-2%. On my Mazdaspeed 3 the CAI gained a solid 14whp however i didn't even notice it as it was added to an already healthy torque curve, it wasn't until the package was complete (Turbo back exhaust system, Intake, Inlet pipe, FMIC, BPV and Cobb AP stg. 3) that the car was clearly a good deal more powerful

Agreed. I have a high flow cat, RB REV8 exhaust, RB intake & duct, and RB reflash.

The reflash significantly woke the car up.

And of course healthly plugs and wires make a nice difference when your on 20k plugs.
