Hey Redshift; do you know of anyone in the Halifax area who has an ACCESSPort? CEL popped up last night for me and I am wondering if I will need to hit the dealer up for reading the CEL error.

I don't, actually. I'm planning to get one, but too many bills, not enough funding at the moment.
I tried using my cheap little Princess Auto OBD reader on the 8 before, but no luck.

As long as its a CAN code reader it will work. I have one but im too far away.

I lurked around the forums since I bought my car last fall. Took me a while to join; I'm too poor to mod and don't drive enough to break stuff.

Anyways I go to DalTech, and there are a ton of Rx8's in the downtown area. I'm not sure if everyone is picking them up off lease, but I see several per day. Within the last few months I have seen (only counting multiple sightings) 4 or 5 V-reds, including my own, at least two dark grey, one white, one yellow, one silver always parked near dal, two black, one blue.

There are only 2 or 3 Blue in the city. Was the one you saw downtown, and did you notice if it had dark wheels? Likely me.

They are all over the place now. For the first 4 years I had mine, it was the only one in the parking garage at Purdy's. Now there are 3 more that are always parked near me. Not that it goes to work much. Usually take the MSP.

I'm not sure about the wheels, it must have been you because I used to go out the opposite direction every morning to the airport, you were always going into town. It was always around downtown/Dal though.

I see you have a racer, where do you run? AMP?

Possible. I live in Fall River, and work at Purdy's. So, normally come in the 118, across the McKay, and down Barrington. Would depend on the time of year. Car was away until mid-April.

Yes, I run the 7 out at AMP. Have you been? The 8 makes a nice lapping car there. I think there is a lapping school in June for anybody interested. (Or who needs me to be a bad influence)

Any of the NS people have any toys they need on their 8s? I'm playing with the idea of an "install party" sometime in the next month or so. No toys to put on mine, but I need to do all the maintenance. (plugs, wires, coils, oil, coolant, tranny and dif fluids are all sitting on my bench.) But, that gets a little boring. I might actually tackle some of that this weekend.

Got all the fluids, plugs, wires and coils done last weekend.

Nothing super-exciting, but if anybody is install/maintenance party minded, planning to do pads/rotors on a friends 2nd Gen 7, bleeding the brakes and maybe a sway-bar on a 3rd Gen, and trying to put the clutch pedal reinforcement bracket on my 8 this Saturday.

I've wondered about that reinforced clutch bracket for a while now. I had the cable pull right thru the firewall on my old GTI..that was no fun. Are you doing it as a precaution or is yours failing?

Where in Fall River are you (PM me i guess) I wouldn't mind a stickybeak at that bracket install. Alas I have no fun parts to put on mine...the MPV has been draining my car budget lately.

No issues with my clutch currently. Partially being pro-active, and I happened to be ordering another part from a vendor that happened to have a few of the last MazSport brackets left, and I was in deep for the shipping anyway, so figured I might as well have them throw one in the box.

Hmmm I'm a little ignorant, would the clutch bracket fail from occasional spirited use, or would you have to track it/abuse it frequently?

Speaking of clutches, I am trying to teach my girlfriend to drive stick on my 8 (Yeup - I love her alot). Should things go sour, what's it like to deal with the clutch? Has anyone replaced one?

Clockwork: I guess the answer on the bracket is "yes." The whole mechanism for the clutch pedal is thin stamped steel with a couple of spot welds. Over time, metal fatigue sets in, and it cracks. (Not always, but common enough there is a long thread on the forum about it.) After pulling my pedal out to install the reinforcement bracket, I'm glad I did. Mine wasn't showing any signs of fatigue, but it is thin and I can see how it would have problems in the long term

As for installing the clutch, I haven't done one on the 8. (You would have to have things go really sour to kill it while learning, I think.) I imagine it would take a few hours. Depends what all you would want to do. i.e. while you have it out, you would probably want to do the flywheel. Also, you'll lose some fluid from the transmission when you drop it, so you might as well change that while you are at it.

Also, R-XXXX-8, thanks for dropping by, and for your assistance. Nice to meet you, and hopefully we'll have a few more meets as the season goes on.

Not to make a real commercial solicitation (so Admins, please let me know if I need to do something formal) but given the current exchange rate, my local rotary support group and I are looking at ordering some parts from Racing Beat. Even with exchange, shipping is usually a killer for one-off orders, so the plan would be to get it shipped freight and split the costs.
As part of the sponsorship for our race car, my better half is technically in their system as a dealer, so, we should be able to get some decent prices, and they are flexible with us on shipping method. (i.e. no UPS.)

I'm in Halifax as well, and just picked get my RX8 this summer. This site has been great with answering all those questions that can't be answered by people in the shop. Anyone in Halifax drive their 8 all winter?

If you are worried about rust, talk to Pierre @ Krown Rust Control Systems 2823 Robie in Halifax... Best product I have found for my Civic and the TR6 I had for 32 Yrs... and if you can believe a British Car without Rust, I had one. Some people don't like the fact that they drill holes but he will drill and hide them or none if you prefer... will save the car from salt... Just a suggestion... Other choice... get a winter beater like my civ... I can,t imagine the thought of salt creeping into all those crevices...
