Angry Airbag sensor light

I own an '07 RX8 GT, with a Mazdaspeed cold air intake. At high speeds, I've seen my airbag light flash, then stay on... What could be causing this?

Your 8 is getting excited and trying to communicate with you.

It happened to me a few times too! Don't worry about it though, the airbags still work (i think) and after you've cooled your car off, turn it off for a bit then start it up again, it should go away after you turn your car back on.

ummm... define high speeds.. if we're talkin 100+ I'll automatically make the assumption that this is on the track (aka "a driving school").. because none of us here would be dumb enough to be doin' that high speed on the road.

This isn't a normal thing to happen... if you got an 07 you'd most likely be under warranty.. so get it checked out. The one thing you don't want to have happen is have malfuctioning airbags at highspeeds (though most manufacturer's will still have em work even if the light's flashing).

I can't really say this is the norm either... a number of us have gone to multiple "driving school" sessions and I know of other lights that come on (CEL and Coolant inparticular).. but... never heard of the air bag light comin' on before now.

My airbag/ seatbelt pre-tensioner light also started flashing, or jsut staying lit at all speeds. I did some research and many say it has to do with the wiring, for instance, under the seats being loose.

I went under the seats and jiggled the sensor wires, at the clips in particular, and it went away. Hit a bump a day later and it came back on. When I went to the dealer, they tried to tell me I needed a new wiring harness for some absurd price. Since there is no way I'm doing that, i figured I'd remove the clips, replace, and reconnect them and see what happens. Maybe you jsut have some loose wiring?

heh... that same thing actually happened with my old tibruon (very common with that car)... though no amount of jiggling would get that sucker to work... the wires normally end up getting pinched and you have no other option then to replace the harnest

My parking brake light comes on in brisk right hand turns such as highway on ramps. I just chalk in down as typical rotary car quirks.

mine did this past track day at shannonville. it stayed on the whole time during track and then after i turned off the car, and started it again it went away. So i should probably get it checked up then right? but it hasn't happened since then.

Been to the Dealer many times, all warranty work... Modulators were replaced, computer replaced, seat track replaced, computer has been reset many times, But it still happens 1 out of every 7-8 times I'm on the highway. And yes once the car is turned off to cool for a minute, the computer must reset itself and the light is gone.

Most likely not, but it's just not something i have to worry about right now, since it's only happened to me twice so far, but if it happens to you 1 out of every 7-8 times, then that's pretty often. So i guess just ask around, and maybe if you're somewhat close by, take it to Scarboro Mazda, and ask fro either Al or Colin. Scarboro Mazda is probably one of the best ones out there and they know their stuff. Al is the general manager and colin specializes in the 8s? i think? not too sure about this.

...... broken... FIX IT! Specially if you're still under warrantee. Money is on the fact that the actual seatbelt clip has to be replaced.
