18.59L/100.... 0.894$/L regular!
After taking it easy during the breaking period, I finally returned to my usual driving style!
Result: 282.2Km for 52.46L
That's a great 18.59L/100
My chipped TT averaged 13L/100 with the same driving style!
Yesterday the gas price rose to 89.4 (regular) here in Quebec City; I haven't seen the price for the premium but it must be something around 0.96$!
I'm wondering what amount of fuel my car will use during the winter at -20C?
Well.... anyway I love my 8:D and it's a real party to drive:p

Wow... ummm that's pretty bad, I have 220Km on my tank right now and I'm at EXACTLY half a tank.
I am a LITTLE worried about the winter though, with more idleing and stuff.

TT, just curious, what is your driving style? I drive pretty hard too and if the Renesis returns THAT kind of fuel economy with high rpm driving..

Well, usually I shift around 7k then select a gear that maintains the rpm between 4k and 5k... so if in need of acceleration, I'm not to far from the "power zone".
Once in a while, I go all the way to the readline :D but not that often. When merging on the highway, I can go up to 160km - 170km ( 4th gear) then ease back to 119 (6th gear)... you know... the tickets
When leaving the office, I get on a highway from a traffic light; if I'm on the first row, I'll accelerate up to 180 (being alone on the road) for about 2km (no policeman on that part of the road) then just before the overpass, ease back to 115 (6th) because there is very often a policeman on the other side
I guess some people might say I'm driving to fast... shifting to high but... hey, I've what is suppose to be a high-rev engine with his power at the top of the band.
Since my last fill-up, just for fun, I drove like my grand-mother.... shifting 1-3-5, shifting at 3000k, trying to maintain the rev between 2 and 2.5k... so far, 85km and not yet 1/4 tank... guess I'll get close to 95km for the first 1/4 tank... but driving like that, might as well buy myself and Echo:p
By trying to get all the power (is it 250, 247, 238... maybe less
) this car need to be driven at high rev...
I think that 18L/100 is a lot for "not that must" power.
I love the car and the driving experience, but still...

Hehe.. no problem.. Hmm.. you DO drive pretty hard but like you said it, this is a Rotary engine and it SHOULD be revved high for maximum enjoyment. :D Let's hope as the engine breaks in that goes down a little.. but 18L/100km is VERY high, ouch.

Well, I probably have a similar driving style, but slightly less agressive.
So far, my worst tank got my about 17.5L/100km.
Best case... at half a tank I'll have 150km on the car...

Well leaving it to rev 4-5K all the time you'll get horrible mileage.
You should be cruising at 2.5-3k on the highway. You won't get much better mileage with that type of driving that's for sure!

Hehe.. I didn't even bother doing the math for the tank when I was at the 2-day Solo 2 Eastern Regionals in PEI the first weekend of August. I swear the gas needle was a real-time dial moving in time with the Tach...

Well, it shouldn't be HORRIBLE mileage using half of the Rev range.
My Civic SiR that I traded for the RX-8 got taken to it's 8000rpm redline every time I drove it, and I can't recall ever shifting it much below 5000rpm.. and it was still giving me mid-20s MPG.
It dynoed 140hp at the wheels too... pretty good for an engine rated at 160hp at the flywheel. Good thing it didn't have one of these Mazda 30% loss drivetrains...

My mileage has started to improve a bit. The last two were 13.4 and 12.5 L/100 km.
The main change I've made is that once I get stuck behind someone, instead of sitting in 4th at 4-5000 rpm, I just go to 6th.
Since you're stuck driving at their speed, you may as well save the gas.
Of course, as soon as a passing lane appears, I'm down in 3rd, but it still helps, from the looks of it.
BTW, we had a cold snap out here this weekend (you could see your breath kind of cold) and I noticed this morning that I had 245 km on the trip odometer and half a tank of gas left. Looks like the colder air might help with mileage. If so I'm looking forward to October.

I guess it depends on what you think is horrible. I'm getting about 13L / 100Km shifting at 3500rpm.
there is plenty of acceleration at this rate. Today I did this with 1-3-6 shifts and was ahead of traffic.

Well to me anything above 15L/100km is horrible. I'm just not used to getting this bad fuel economy.. I can beat on my Prelude like there is no tomorrow and still get 13L/100km. That's with 170 wheel hp. By the looks of it I'd get 18L/100km fuel economy with the same driving style which is unnaceptable.
You shouldn't be forced not to be driving in 4th gear at 4-5K in order to get somewhat reasonable fuel economy imo. 4-5K rpm is still only half of the rev range..

I can't go under 17,5L for 100 km (with or without A/C) and my worst numbers are 19,8 for 100 km!!!

When cruising, it was at 75+ MPH (ie 4K+ rpm), when not cruising it was a lot of full throttle high rpm work on 2 lane roads (passing) or in the hilly twisties shifting at 6 or 7K rpm. NOT granny driving, by any means. The absolute worst I got was 15.6L/100km on a tank that combined hilly 2 lanes with rush hour freeway stop/go driving.

390Km 45.56L and I filled it to the brim (as I did last time).
That's 11.7L/100km!
That's not bad. That was mostly city driving. Although for me city is all 80Km/h roads but lots of damn stop lights.
There was also a few times when I hit redline, and 1 trip of about 40km that I kept hammering it.
I think it is getting better.

Wing, very interesting numbers! After my desastrous 18.6L/100, I filled up and decided just for the fun of it to drive like a granny...
Tonight I'm gone a fill up at Ultramar (thursday special - premium is 5 cents more than regular) and see the results but so far, allmost made 200km with half a tank.
For the last 200km I never revved the motor more than 4k, usually shifting 1-3-5-6 before 3-3k... never exceeded 110km on hway and cruising in the city at about 2.5k.
Most of the mileage was done as follow:
6 days at the office (5km city, 6 traffic lights, one hill to climb - 10km hway) = 12 x 15km = 180km
The other 20km was city driving... A/C was on most of the time
I'll get the exact numbers tonight but so far that about 13L/100km... and it's no fun to drive like that
I don't know if some 8 has a consumption problem while others don't (Gord?)
Anyway, I'll post my numbers tonight after my fill-up!

Oups... don't tell me I need to drive like that for another week I can't stand it anymore... and who knows, these are maybe my last few weeks with the 8 (buyback..?!?) might as well enjoy it :D

Well... I must admit, I'm very dissapointed!
Just filled up the car and even with my "granny" driving style I used 13.45L/100km (17.5 mpg us - 21 mpg cnd/uk).
If I look at Canzoomer, during breaking period he was able to achieve 11.3L/100 (city driving).
So far here are my results:
273.2km - 37.22l@84.9 = 15.69L/100km (Crosscountry, hway)
311.2km - 49.78l@84.4 = 16.00L/100km (Mix - breaking)
454.3km - 48.88@84.4 = 10.76L/100km (Hway - cruise @ 119k/h)
389.1km - 49.04@79.9 = 12.60L/100km (80%Hway no cruise)
280.3km - 40.20@83.4 = 14.34L/100km (Crosscountry cruising)
394.6km - 49.70@89.4 = 12.60L/100km (80%Hway)
