Some fascinating logic but, umm, ahh, I didn't need it as motivation. :p

How can you drive this car without giving in to the temptation to rev it hard??? I thought that was one of the main attractions!!!!!!!

Those who don't visit redline at least a few times on a trip that takes more than 20 minutes (i.e. when it's properly warmed up) should consider getting a camry for their next lease package!!!

Good post.

I shall print out a copy for my glovebox.

"Just doing a routine port flush officer... "

Too much grannying about can be bad for any engine though. I was talking to a Volvo mechanic some years ago and he told me about the lowest use engine they had to do a major rebuild on.

Volvos of that time typically had an expected engine service life of 500,000k or more before a major rebuild, with some getting way more. Yet they had to do the complete job on one that had done less than 100,000k.

And it was not because it had been thrashed - quite the reverse. It had received the classic "little old lady treatment". All short slow trips to the shops and back. Usually spending far too much time below optimum operating temperature, never given a good chance to clear its lungs, etc. End result one worn and clogged up mess.

I'm definitely kind to my Renesis, when it comes to clear lungs... :D

Doesn't matter. Drive fast with either (any?) of them and soon, strange noises start to emerge....from the passenger's seat

There are post after post in the ausrotary forum about this. Do a search on "ATF trick".

Put simply, you throw a small amount of Auto Transmission Fluid (ATF) into the combustion chamber via the spark plug hole, leave it for a while, repeat a few times, start her up, whatch her smoke for a while and bob's your fathers brother...carbon build up gone.

Basics of it are that the ATF breaks down the carbon.

Hahahaha.

The worst thing is that with the digital speedo you can't use that old line:

"Honey, I'm not really going that fast. The needle just looks further over because of where you're sitting" [not that it ever worked - she would just lean over, look at it properly and clip me over the ear!!!]

I had to laugh about what some old bloke who had been married 80 years (!!!!!!!!) had to say about the secret of a successful marriage:

"Yes Dear". [LOL]

And of course, at a certain time of the lunar cycle you'll still be met with:

"Are you trying to **** me off or what??"

Boy do I know about this one!!! :D I keep a calendar.. If you ever see me trying very hard to change the date of a cruise day, then you will understand why... The Finance Director really likes cruise days and we all want to have a good day..

The Finance director obviously doesn't read the forum. If she does I won't be surprised to see you talking a bit higher at the next cruise... irrespective of what day of the lunar month it is when she reads that post :p

I wonder if the ATF thing might help RAP with his alleged sticking ports problem?

Cheers,
Hymee.

That's where it came from -- rotarygod's ponderings to help RAP. But, as RAP points out subsequently in his thread, his car had less than 30m on it, so carbon fouling is unlikely to be a cause. However, some other type of fouling could be...
