Question Where to now?

Ok knowing that Mazda are making the 8 into a fat sassy lard.....devoid of soul and power, tell me what would you or will you buy next...??

I have to turn my car over in the next 6 months and am in a quandry as what to get next....

My spending power is $55 - $60 on road
Like convertible idea....
Don't like the Civic Type R...it's over-rated by HOnda....
Prefer something lighter on fuel....not a HYBRID
As long as it comes in silver....

What would you suggest???

Look forward with interest to your thoughts.....

Ciao' :-)

Keep the 8. There's nothing else out at the moment unless you're willing to spend $20k more.

Oh no... you must be wrong... Wikipedia has the following....

The Second Generation of RX8, the RS, Debuted at the 2008 Detroit Motor Show, with Production Model Year starting in 2009, the RS features a Redesigned Front Fascia, Led Taillights, Refreshed Interior, Different Stock Wheels and Recaro Seats, with a Performance Boost of 25HP and a weight Reduction of 350 Lbs, and a variable Red Line, Mazda Also listened to Customer Complaints of the placement of the Oil Dipstick

I laughed my *** off when I read that... I wonder who wrote it..

Well, first thought was just buy an MX-5 and spend the rest of your budget on mods for it but lemme see ...doesn't HAVE to be a convertible I notice ...

An Evo X?? For an extra $10K you could buy the 2.0T TT, which many people prefer to the heavier quattro. Or an Elise S.

All fun cars but a bitch to live with day to day. If you want a convertible for under $60K, I still reckon the MX-5 or a second-hand 330Ci (as mentioned above) would be the way to go. I'd go the former myself but that's a personal choice.

If you want the practicality of a sedan, you could also check out the 6MPS. I didn't like the way it handled and changed gears but you might feel differently...

Wikipedia is written by you and me. You can write anything on it but some people can challenge the facts.

Sounds like you are gaining back the 25HP that lost in the false advertising in the US. They will prob take it off when they find out it is the same engine.

VW Eos 2.0 TFSI, either 6sp manual, or DSG depending on taste; allow $1800 for a flash tune (APR, GIAC, REVO or Bluefin). I reckon that'll suit both your taste AND driving style.

Better order now; there's a waiting list.

BTW, I'd wait and have a look at the Aus spec for the RX-8. We've been reacting to information on the top line US spec, with all bodykit attached. Based on MA's past approach, they will try to hit a couple of price points so I reckon you will see something 'less' ostentatious!

I just knew this was coming.

You mean there's enough boring people to form a queue for that horrible Eos thing?? Bullshit!! I've tried to appreciate it on the road but it induces narcolepsy in me - nearly led to an accident the last time I passed one.

Good point on the new model though. Hope you're right! If we're really lucky the black plastic headbutt will be an 'option'.

For 55-60K on roads, I think you can score yourself a very nice (and quick) PRB Clubman (with some decent change in your pockets)

It doesn't have a roof, handles brilliantly, goes quick and can be a fuel miser ...

Now now people lets be nice about this....we're all individuals and we like different cars for different reasons...back on topic....

My spending power is $55 - $60 on road
Like convertible idea....
Don't like the Civic Type R...it's over-rated by HOnda....
Prefer something lighter on fuel....not a HYBRID
As long as it comes in silver.....

If you want to go practicality you could consider the Ford Focus CC...it has a two-piece folding electric hardtop, a full 4-seater, and holds more than 500 litres of luggage space. The attached pic is the US version but you get the idea...not bad....

Kerchrist! I thought I was being cheeky suggesting impracticalities like the Elise and TT!!! Julia needs a daily driver folks - not a trackday special.

I was being nice! Relax Trev, Timbo's a mate.

As for your suggestion!!! For starters, it's a Ford!! Secondly, it's a Ford!!! Hmm, nup, don't need any other reasons but most are self-evident from the pics.

Agree with Michael on choice, but if you can get the new S2000 (AP2 not the AP1 in Australia), then it is even better.
