Talking when was your first redline?

tonight, I reached the redline in 2nd gear for the first time and heard the "beep" signal to shift the gear. :D
I had so far done about 1600km to my odometer. so I had been cautious about over-revving it but it was so smooth in reaching there. it was so sweet, I can't wait to try it out again sometime.

btw, I tried driving s2000 tonight which a friend is getting next week...
man that machine is something too.. love that gearshift and exhiliration without roof ^^

In the RX8? About 15m out the dealer's driveway in the demo car.

Me gets in car.
Dealer says something like - "It revs to almost 10000 rpm".
Me puts car in first, releases clutch, presses accelerator
flat. Me hears "Beep", me changes gear.

Me goes "Yes, it does".

Dealer asks me not to do that again.

For me, Mallala raceway with AMG. Redline is encouraged by Mazda as we were on the racetrack

When I got the my car, I would have hit the Redline with 100 klicks or so.

I can't be bothered babying it. If it breaks, it is under warranty. When it is out of warranty, I trade up. Besides, the hardcover book says it revs to 15k without the limiter, so I'm really only hitting an arbitrary limit set at 2/3 of the car's true maximum.

This theory works well for me as long as I am employed and earning $$$.

The first night I got it. I couldnt help it. I tried to keep the revs down a little.. until I read in the book: "does not require any special running in" or something similar. I guess I was looking for an excuse

Disclaimer: read your book before making your decision :P

Mine was at 750

Dealer said just don't take it over 8g for the first 750 ks

Now it is nearly everyday when I race away from the lights

Same as Dbb, it is under warranty, and I will trade it before I run out of warranty.

Actually, my dealer told me the 'drive it like you stole it' line but I just couldn't find it in me to do that until past 1000K

LOL.. the demo we drove got 'beeped' in 2nd with about 3 km on the clock, by me, my g/f managed it the next day too ..

We'll be going with the drive in like you stole in run in procedure D

Seems to work with everyones rally car engines including mine, so I dont' see why it won't work for an 8...:D

Rowds

coming from an era when driving in was essential, I cannot bring myself to take the risk of being abusive under about 7000km (5000 miles in real money.)
As dbb mentioned 9500 is just a line in the sand for this engine, and it sure is a nice place to be. She loves it, so do I.
