warranty and insurance

So exactly how far can we go without voiding our warranty and insurance?

Cat Back exhaust is OK
We can obviously choose our tyres and brakes.

Sway Bars? I guess are OK.
Supercharger? I guess not.

What about cat forward pipes? extractors? ECU? etc.

Since my car is a business vehicle, I can't do anything that voids warranty, but I'd still like to push the envelope ...

The same sort of "rules" would apply for most things.

Brakes: If you put aftermarket brake pads on, and something went wrong with them and the destroyed something, then you would have to lodge a claim via the aftermarket manufacturer, not Mazda. If the same thing happened with the genuine pads, then the Mazda warranty would cover it. If your engine lunched itself and it was not the fault of your pads, then you are OK.

Same can be said for the front "1/2" of the exhaust. Numerous people fit full systems to there V8 Commodores. Heck - the dealers even them offer them as "dealer fitted" options. This is very common. So you have to trust what you put in won't f_ck anything up, and use something reputable that has got some for of warranty. Generally, exhausts are quite safe. Main things to watch are heat protection, O2 sensors etc. I have heard some jointing compounds they use can bugger the O2 sensors. That is why they should be put together dry.

Air fiters: Should be OK as per brakes/oil filters etc.

Other Intake mods. Generally your buggered if you mess with the MAF and the TB. I even had my SS in for warranty work on the clutch, and I left my Hymee MAF-TB tube in place.

ECU: Generally frowned upon, especially piggyback ECU's. I know of dealers who get Commodores "edited" by reputable tuners who ensure the tune is not too close to the edge. That is one reason I like a properly edited ECU, rather than A piggy-back. Not to say there is anything wrong with the CanZoomer mod - in fact I would love one myself. But that is another project...

Suspension: Mainly the same as the normal stuff. As long as it is all with the correct dimensional tolerences etc.

Forced Induction: Bit of a no-brainer, really. Think about it though - if you are prepared to spend $10k on a good forced induction setup, then surely you might be able to put a extra few aside for an engine re-build? That should be part of one philosophy.

Here is a really neat thread on mods, and how some ******** bugger it up for those who do the right thing. It is well worth the read:

These are my opions, and reflect what I have been told by several manufacturers approved service agents/dealers - including Mazda.

Cheers,
Hymee.
