Thumbs up Wakefield Park track day

Just back from the Wakefield Park track organised by ADJUST and RENEW members (Rotary Enthusiasts of NEW South Wales) with support from REACT. A big thanks to everyone who organised and helped, especially ADJUST.

A really good representation of RX-8 owners from this forum: Hymee, emack, RIC SHAW, BABY 8, jax8, Lock & Load and your truly, plus a large selection of various other rotors, including and open-wheeler with a turbo 13B, a 20B and 12A turbo sports cars.

Everyone had a ball! And I expect others to add their comments to this thread, plus photos. Great to meet the faces to the nicknames on this forum

For me, it confirmed what a great car the 8 is, right out of the box. Forgiving, easy and fun to drive fast on a circuit. I recommend everyone with a taste for speed to go to one of these days, and do your thing there, and not on a public road.

I did around 100k on the circuit today. My fuel economy is shot to ribbons -- that tank lasted me about 200k!

Wooo-o-o-o hooo-o-o-o

:D

Hey all,

the day was ABSOLUTELY AWESOME!!! what an amazing variety of cars, from R100's, SP RX7's, clubmans, RX8's, sports sedans, it was great!!

i have a few people i want to thank in no particular order for their help and involvement in the day and making it as great as it was;

-the RENEW committee; Nathan, Brice, Neil, Ben, Jen and Adam.
-the REACT car club, espescially Ben, Christian and Gaz's involvement
-Ric Shaw for getting the RX8 guys involved and tuition
-John Godschlax from Mazprep for getting the sports sedans down and the donation of the RX8 banner
-Ivan Mikac for his tuition and providing awesome tunes through out the day
-Berry Polovic for his tuition and some other nice melodies
-Micael from Reliance for bringing down some very impressive cars
-Mark Boxer and Mark Pakula (sp?) for coming down and covering the day for Fast Fours

Michael and Mark your dedication in driving down from Queensland was awesome, it really was appreciated

thanks of course goes to everyone that came to the day and supported it and got involved. the rx8's sounded so sweet with the exhausts on, and the boys werent backward in driving them as a rotor should be driven thanks also for everyone being so patient for the photo session and the timing software problem. we can assure we will have the timing problem well and truly sorted by the next track day

i hope everyone enjoyed themselves and found the day to be more than what they had hoped for. the next day is on Saturday the 3rd of July at wakefield park, we are planning a show and shine and some other things to be incoporated into the event. if anyone has any feedback from today, or in comparison to the October day whether it be positive or constructive feedback please pm me so we can do out best to provide the day that you want

regards,

Brad

guys, timbo is right about the RX8.what a great car. you came thrash it doing 1min 13sec laps one after the other and it just keeps going. i dont know of another car that does that off the showroom floor. thanks to the RX8 boys that could make it and to all from RENEW inc Brad. maybe we should look at Oran Pk for a day ?
driving Hymee's car and mine i could feel the diference with the tunes as from the std cars i drove, they pulled and reved better. also the suspension changes made a massive difference do you guys not think ?

What a blast .

Since timbo has done the thanks bit to everyone concerned i wont repeat it .

Hymee and myself left the Gold Coast at approximately 5:20am thursday morning heading towards WAKEFIELD meeting up with farmer Jack(JAX8) and his lovely wife at raymond terrace , THEN PROCEDED WITH A GUIDED TOUR OF SYDNEY WITH its many f%^&*#g tunnels and heavy traffic , but it was great fun .

Hymee must have a GPS system built in to his butt because he never made a mystake all the way and i must thank him for a great trip , even though he played a April fools joke for 800km re my fog lights not working .

After 15 hours of spirited driving at times by myself ,( Hymee always stuck to the speed limit ) boring , we finally got to wakefield .

The 2 way radios where invaluable as we communicated with each other all the way apart for the times that Hymee was on the phone (which was forever i have never heard of recieving or making so many calls .

We stopped every 2-3 hours for toilet breaks (myself ) etc and for HYMEE TO MAKE SURE HE DIDNT LOOSE ANY CONDITIONING .j/k .
ha ha ha.
Hymee knows every hamburger and fast food outlet in Australia .

ALL FOR ONE AND ONE FOR ALL , WAS the order of the day a great bunch of guys ready to help in everyway .

It was great meetting some of the proofessional drivers Rick shaw and others WHO gadly helped all who wanted help it was awesome tryng to follow Rick on the track AND FOLLOW HIS BRAKING POINTS AND lines on the track i really found this the best way to learn were my ride had to be in order to take those sharp and more tecknically challenging parts of the course .

The one night stay at the sheep station in the shearing sheds sharing the same room as Hymee was great .

Brads dad who made a great barbuque and cooked breakfeast for all i thank you .

I was probably one of the oldest cunny funts there but i felt 21 again mixing with all the guys / girls who were great .

Paul (emacks car that i drove is noticeably better in its ride and handling than our stock rx8 , a worth while mod , that paul has invested in ).

All the drivers were courteous of everyones ride and admired each others wankels .ha ha ha .

Timbo , myself , brad his dad rick shaw and a few others had a few drinks after the day at gouldbourn workers club . and then we said our goodbuys .

Timbo headed back to camberra and i headed to melbourne , there was a moment of sadness as we parted ways .

I strongly recommend for everybody to attend these meetings its a great way to meet and bond with your cars and people .

My rx8 was awesome on and off the track it purred all the way , as Rick said its a great car , it does everything you ask from it and more .

I managed to get my car photographed by FAST FOURS MAGAZINE (thanks to the F-F guys .
hYMEES FAMOUS GRILL AND EXHAUST HOPEFULLY WILL BE FEATURED IN ONE OF THEIR NEXT EDITIONS .

I hope to meet up with fellow rx8 melbourne owners you can call me on 0415 775 985 .

Sorry for all my gramaticall errors and spelling mystakes , i was allways bussy fooling around in classwith the girls and not paying attention to my english teachers .

BABY8 , AND ELANORA IT WAS GREAT MEETING YOU BOTH , AS WELL AS ALL THE OTHERS TO MANY TO MENTION .

FINALLY Brad it would be a great idea for name tags as tryng to remmenber 35 names is hard as specially with the racing helmets coming on and off truhout the day , i often felt that there was 70 people there with and without the helmets .

CHEERS
MICHAEL

Ah, and the quote of the day, which I have been trying to resist repeating was as jax8 was about to leave at the end of the day. He walked over to L&L (who was changing) and said "While you've got your pants down, let me shake your hand" :D :D

Talking What an awsome day!!!

The weather was perfect and the cars were totally kick ***!! Firstly a HUGE thank you to Brad (adjust) for organising this event , as everyone else has already said, it was a GREAT turn out!! Phil and i had a blast!!!

Thank you to all the drivers who let us sit in their lean mean racing machines!! ALthough the rx8 has great handling, i noticed that most of the other cars all had extroadinary power!!!

ANB-98Z thanks for the great ride in your car!! i must say i really do love the rx7 series 6.

Trent, thank you for helping me overcome my fear of speed kekekee....
To be able to ride in your car was a totally new experience for me and i am truely greatful and honoured. I am hoping to see your car in that fast fours dvd soon!! Hopefully you found out the source to that funny noise the wheels were making.....I took soooo many pictures and clips of y0our car on the race way and will post it up very very soon. Trent, your driving skills and the power of your car is beyond explanation!!! When i learn to drive i would hope to be as good a dirver and have as great a car as yours!!

Ric Shaw, after hearing phil boast about your driving skills i was thrilled to be in the same car as you!! The power differnce and handling of your rx8 compared to ours was of great extremes. NExt we are definately saving up for sway bars and suspension adjustments!!! Even now watching the video i took in your car i must say that you are one HECTIC driver!!! I must say you know your car very very well and the way you drive not only puts on a GREAt show but also shows everyone your PERFECT driving skills. i will HAVE to load up the video for everyone to see....i think everyone will be pretty much shocked at the miniscule distance you kept to the car infront. It was like two very fast moving ants playing follow the leader...Thank you so much for a very unique experience in which i will never forget...being able to sit in your car gave me adrenaline rushes that roller coasters cant even produce!!

To all the rx8 owners thank you soo much for keeping us company and it was an honour to be able to meet such GREAt people!!! You were all so friendly and made our day so much more enjoyable.
Timbo it was great meeting you and hope to see you next time on the tracks!!

Michael, you kept the days so very interesting and funny!!! Your stories are hillarious and it was GREAT meeting you!!! I love your rx8 bear and the subtle yet very different design you have on your 8. Although when i first saw your car i thought you would be asian lol.....have a safe trip back to the coast and hope to see you soon!!

Mark, without your exhaust i would have thought my car didnt even exist. Wish you all the best for your business propositions and i am looking very forward to getting the rest of the hymee exhaust.

Paul, your 8 proved that the factory fitted extras do make a difference!!! After phil sat in your car he said that it handled a lot better than his one. Hope we can go cruising through the sydney streets like we did on the way back from goulburn. And maybe we can eevn get a ride on that duccatti(girls cant spell)??? lol (in my dreams...)

Jack it was great meeting you and i must thank you for the company back from the race tracks. With you and Paul there it made the ride bak so much more fun, faster and more enjoyable. Hope you get your door fixed up soon kekek...

To Matt, HAPPY BIRTHDAY for that day...hope you enjoyed it and it was great being able to met you and your gf,..Thank you for keeping me company...i thought i was gonna be the only girl there kekeke....next time we go Krispy kremes penrith i will definaltely call you!!!

To everyone else i forgot to mention thank you all for being so freindly and making the day so fun!!! i'll definately be seeing you guys in the next track day!!! and this time im bringing sunscreen!!! I will try to post up all the pics and stuff very vedry soon and give you guys a link..there is just waaayy too much to post up here.......

All the 8s were on stock tyres. They are not the best for track work but they are ok. I have done 26,000k in my car now and I reckon I'll be lucky to make 40,000k. Yes, there is quite a bit of feathering etc on the tyres but it really depends how many laps/how hard/temperature etc.

Here are a selection of the most interesting pics I took on the day:

Wakefield 040402

This is my favourite shot from the day because it has every generation of RX in it: Old school, 1st gen, 2nd gen, 3rd gen and RX-8.

I have all the photos in at least 1024x768 and some in 1600x1200. If your car in in the photo, email me to tell me which ones you want bigger and I can email them to you. The full-size panorama is stupidly large but looks great at more than 3000px long. If your car is in the pano, email me and I'll email the full-size pano to you.

Yes, there was. I believe it's basically a Formula Holden but it's quite significantly modified to run a 13b turbo as a stressed chassis member (!). It was running 1.02s and has run sub minute laps previously. I wasn't paying a great deal of attention to the timing so it could have been running faster by the end of the day.

The Yellow sports sedans were also stupidly, scarrily fast. Tim was taking me for a few laps and as we entered T2 he said a "bad word" , moved quickly left and we were blown away by the 20b and 12aT car. They were so fast, Tim was heard to say "I can't even keep up to follow their lines!"

Also, regarding the ability of the 8:
I have previously been around Wakefield in several turbo'd 1st generation RX-7s. The 1st gens are rough riding, noisy and as they lack IRS are prone to skip sideways over bumpy parts of the track (mainly the highest section). The '8 was smooth, relaxed and very impressive. Power delivery is not dis-similar to my 12a in that it is particularly linear and deceptively powerful, taking into account that the '8 has ~180kw vs my ~88kw.

It's also fun sitting in the passenger seat watching the tacho needle bump the 10

Now, who's going to be the first to bridge port a 4 port Renesis? bRAP, bRAP, bRAP!

Saru - I liked all those photo's, thanks!

But I liked this one showing the extra-ordinary lengths that swissol has to go to in trying to make the yellow look better

http://resources.dmt.canberra.edu.au...d04040207.html

I had a awesome day, and met heaps of people. I am writing a full report to post later.

Cheers,
Hymee.

Yep,

I gotta tell you that Yellow RX-8 looks damn bloody good even if it is a reflection on a red painted surface!
