cruise control gone haywire

I was driving with the cruise control yesterday set to around 110km/h (the limit on the road) and tapped my brakes as I was comming up to a slower car. once they pulled in I hit the resume putton and the car started to hunt accelerating then braking and so on. the car got up to 125km/h so I switched it off, turned it back on, re-set the speed and everything was fine.
first time I've had problems with cruise control in any car! when it was working properly it is the best cruise control I have used

You confused the cruise control

How old is your car? Being new the buttons are abit tuff and can get stuck.

Its happen to me once before too. I played with the cruise buttons up and down up and down a few times while the car was off just to make them used

Regards
Phillip

Cruise control 'surge' is a known problem. Usually occurs if you tap 'resume' at >100k on a slight uphill. But I've not heard of the 'hunting' (=braking/accelerating) you mention.

I've mentioned it to my dealer but it's a hard problem to replicate. The dealer says no faults show up on the WDS. Could be worth searching the US threads.

I experiemented with mine once. It accelerated from around 100 to 135, even though the setting was 115.

I use my c/c all the time, so it's not the buttons.

well surge might be what I had. it felt like it didn't know if it wanted to accelerate or stop the excess speed

I had this too but after 6 months, I'm used to it. I know press set and then accel up to the desired speed and press set again or use the up button

Dealer cant replicate it either.

I have never liked using cruise control before, but I use it all the time on the 8. I agree, it's one of the best cc's I've used. Never had any problems with mine - I've done the reset after tapping the brakes and it always accelerates smoothly (and quickly!) to the set speed, even if I hit resume at 20+ mph less than the set speed.

lol it dose like to accelerate when you hit resume seems like it wants to get you back up to speed as quickly as possible

I have never heard of this "hunt acellerating then braking and so on..." bit, but I have had the surge that Timbo reported long ago.

I have also found that if you are game enough to leave it go, it will eventually get back down to the originally dialed in speed. Hopefully before the next radar.

And Taka - it is 1 MPH per push. If you ever need to administer me something please don't get litres and gallons mixed up!

I normally "cancel" mine with the button rather than tap the brake pedal, then resume when all is clear again.

Cheers,
Hymee.
