UMBRELLA GIRL ARTICLE -
Who came up with the idea of having great looking women holding umbrellas over racers gathering on the starting grid? Let’s face it, their whole job lasts about 5 minutes. They run out there, hold an umbrella, smile at any camera that comes by and that’s it. Everyone on the grid pretends not to notice them but the fans sure do. But, there was a problem. Up until a few years ago, umbrella girls in this country could be almost any girl that asked to or was asked to do it. Girlfriends, wives, the local Hooters girls, everybody got into the act with varying degrees of success.
Ann Asiano was over in Italy in 2002 at a WSB race and noticed the girls over there seemed to be a much more organized and professional group of fine looking ladies. Hmm… why not do the same thing in the U.S.? Why not, indeed, and Umbrella Girls USA was formed. Ann partnered with Natalie Jackson and started a pretty neat organization with some of the most gorgeous umbrella holders you could ever want.
The girls are available for the usual mix of races, trade shows and other sorts of motor related gatherings, wherever you would want someone dedicated to “highly professional marketing and modeling services to the motorsports industry.”
They have a considerable photo gallery on their site and they’re offering a calendar for the coming year. Kinda makes a guy wish he’d thought of it himself. “Hey honey, how about if I start an umbrella girls business?” Yeah, .. right. Anyway, we don’t have to because they already did and I bet a lot of guys think it’s a pretty good idea.
So if you have some motorsports related event coming up, give them a call and enhance the local scenery.
