As a consequence of having a trip computer in my last two cars I've learned to depend on the computer for information about fuel usage and how much range I still have in the tank on long trips. I was astonished to find that the RX8 doesn't have one.

Recently, somewhere out between Narrabri and Goondawindi I discovered how scary it is when the fuel gauge nudges quarter full and there's still some way to go. The last quarter tank evaporates as you watch the gauge.

So, what are the problems with installing a trip computer in the car? Has anyone had a try at it? Does anyone know an outfit that can do it? I'd be grateful for any information.

You could figure out how many miles your car gets per tank and set the trip odometer to zero each time you take off.
