Technical Assistance - Speaker issues

Hi People,

I need some advice on what's going on. I was driving over a speed hump doing 25 km/hr when suddenly my left rear speakers started making crackling/static/popping noises. Immediately I pulled to the kerb and turned off my radio and the crackling was still happening. This continued for 15 -20 minutes until it died down and my music was back to normal. For the last 3 days now whenever I pull some G's going around corners the noises start again.

I am scheduled for a check-up with the dealership this Wednesday and suspect it is an electrical connection problem, either some grounding or wiring issue. I wonder if anyone could shed some light what they think it may be.

Thanks guys.

Yep, sounds like a connection issue. Can be difficult to trace, so get onto the dealer about it, and keep on their case.

It seems odd that you were getting the noise with the radio off. It might be an electrical short where +12V is somehow getting to the speaker, or it could be a problem with the material that holds the cone in place such that the speaker is moving around a bit on its own ... any vibration of the coil against the magnet is going to sound loud.

Do you have a leather pack or cloth pack? If it's leather there's more to the system and it could be a loose connection to the amp that drives the rears.

Yeah it sounds damn loud! I have a leather pack, but hopefully the dealership will be able to sort it our for me. My left ears are starting to become deaf! I don't think it's the physical speakers as I had a good look to see the stability of the unit. It looked good to me. I suspects its a faulty connection somewhere.

I believe, at least with the BOSE system, that it never actually turns off. It basically sets its volume to zero when you "turn it off". This is probably why the crackling still occured after you turned it off... I'm sure the dealer will sort it out for you .

Update !

The dealer said it's the first time that anyone has experienced this issue and they had to ring Mazda head office for the diagnostic plans of the sound systems! The service chap said when u turn the radio off, there is no power to the system except for the amp to the rear speakers. So the noise could be a faulty connection between these two.

All up they need another 1-2 days to pull the car apart to see what's wrong. I was caining it last night and to my surprise it seems to be fixed!! I am now in a problem of whether to return it or not.

What to do, what to do?
