i was lookin to buy a switchblade key for my 04 rx8 but the only 1 that i can find r all from ebay US and i was wondering if it would work on Aust rx8 the Visteon number are different from my fob so i donno if it would work or not. has any1 done this b4? plz give me some info thx heapzzz. i have seach everywhere n cant find any info.

 

From what I've always seen the switchblade keys only work on 05+. There was no option for 04 switchblade and I was under the assumption there was no compatibility.

 

I have one on my 04 build, but it was purchased in .au so not much help.

 

Can any Mazda switchblade key be reprogrammed for the 8? My guess would be no, its just l can't find any on eBay AU.

 

My 04 has a switchblade.
2SeeKU - I think the best thing to do would be to call a Mazda dealership you trust and ask them directly. They will probably tell you that you have to buy from Aus so they can take your money but it's worth a shot.

 

Actually... best bet is to look on ebay.. every now and again someone will sell one for cheap. As for the programming.. I'm not sure how much the dealership charges for that down there, but it's something you can easily do yourself as long as you have your two keys/remotes (there's a DYI in the Tech Garage section).

Oh.. and I have an 04 with the switchblade as well.. programmed it myself in about 15 minutes...In any case, I can't see your car being that much different then mine... well... aside from the whole drivers seat position :D
