Subaru takes on mazdas MX-5
Subaru using the new impreza platform will be building a roadster to compete with the mazdas MX-5 .
The inspiration for the roadster comes from the 2003 Tokyo motor show were the B9 scrambler concept was revealed .(the concept featured a petrol-electric hybrid drivetrain )
However the engine most likely to appear in Subarus car will be a 2.0 litre boxer engine and apparently it will be offered naturally aspirated as well as a turbo version

I agree...
I read an article the other day about Subie's new soft roader that has a similar grille design to this roadster - it's supposed to evoke the company's aviation roots (it represents a plane coming at ya).
Of course if we ever see it, it'll be receding from our rear view mirrors.

Why can't Subaru ever design a good looking car??
That thing is hideous.
Everytime some sti wannabe rally driver burns me off I just smile and think "you may be faster but you'll also be just as ugly in the morning!!" :D :D

I can't stand the grille, looks so ugly. But in comparison to the 06 WRX STI it actually looks better. The only car in the Subaru line up that looks good at the moment is the Liberty, can't wait to see how they will stuff it up.

Mazdas engineers are too much into trying to find the soul / spirit of the motor car the MX-5is supposed to capture the spirit of the "Horse and rider as one ".
Maybe someone should point out to them the days of the romanticism of the samurai has LONG gone IF YOU ARE GOING TO GIVE US A HORSE MAKE IT A RACE HORSE :D

Yes old Alfa styling habits are hard to disguise ,
but the rest of the car is more masculine to my eyes , while the MX-5 is more metrosexual appealing to the feminine side of everyone .cheers

The incredibly ugly pieces of crap rolling out of the Subaru design camp are a result of this new guy. The new Subaru signature grill that's supposed to be reminescent of it's airrcraft heritage is a blatant rip-off from Alfa Romeo.

Each to their own , but have you seen the MX-5 front
it reminds me of a giant groppers wide mouth with bloated eyes
cheers

Lock, I think you're on your own with this one. Have you seen that fugly large SUV that's about to be released by Subaru??
I suggest he goes back to Alfa.
I think your metrosexual comment probably suited the previous MX5 but to my eyes the new model is far more masculine without the overt try-hard edge design of the Z3.
But let's not talk about the wholesale destruction of BMW's former good design and styling by that Bangle moron!!
