Sorry for you loss, CMac. :-(

Sound like chances are that CMac's RX8 will re-appear in titanium with tonym's vin numbers.
I thought that the Government had set up a "written off vehicle register" which would stop people from doing this sort of re-birthing. Does anyone know if this is happening?

Thanks for the kind words guys. It does feel like a family memeber has gone missing. .

This is what we have insurance for though i suppose.

There were no mods on the car, only my favourite pair of sunnies. Just cancelling the e-tag, they are checking to see if it has been used on any toll roads but i doubt it.

My one happy thought apart from the prospect of getting a new one is that there was less than a 1/4 of a tank left so they weren't going to get far without filling up.. Making them pay $1.10 or 20 p/ltr is a small win :D

Great story Wildcard! I bet you scared three colours of crap out of him.

Everyone has a good stolen car story. I remember when I was around 20 my then g/f, now wife, had a crappy old Sigma wagon. This thing was ugly - warship grey with peeling paintwork, wouldn't pull the skin off 4 day old milk and even the interior was, shall we say, characterful.

We were house sitting for friends in Glebe and she went out to drive to work and came back in and said the car was stolen. I refused to believe her and made her walk all the neighbouring streets thinking she had parked it somewhere else and had forgotten. But nope, some poor desperate bastard had nicked it.

It turned up a few days later a couple of streets away completely undamaged (well, not more damaged anyways :p ) and even her then current 80s music tapes were still in it. We ended up figuring that someone needed a wagon to transport some stuff around and didn't have the heart to burn it out and dump it! :D

Really sorry to read about this!

I know it is hindsight - but the best thing I ever did with my RX-8 was have a Tracker installed. It is brilliant, I even had the company phoning me after someone had thrown an egg at the car triggering the motion sensor (it hit the window). I didn't catch them, but I have heard of stories with the QuikTrak system where the owner was phoned - thieves were still trying to break into the car - when he walked around the corner from the club he was in.

I use to live in Marrickville, but I think it is an essential item no matter where you live.

It was a http://www.quiktrak.com.au/ system, installed by www.cityperformancecentre.com

We all love our RX-8's, having this kind of thing just gives you so much more comfort.

Hi Cmac

So Sorry about the bad luck

1) This is a f#@!#n disgrace that people are doing this *****. 1stly my car got stolen , thank god it wasnt my rx8, but my best friends got his zed, taken. its a f#@!#n disgrace that people are going to bed at night with the thought..."o geez aint i a f@#!~@n legend, i just stole someones car"

2) i suggest u just state what happened and leave it at that. IMHO u can say whatever you want, but i suggest u save yourself, and save talking about it too much on forums, u dont know who's watching and what their thoughts are. In matters like this PM, but then it is a discussion i guess, so dont stop.

3) All the best with it, as I recall last year in May, i posted a thread asking oz guys, what their thoughts were on safety measures, cos u cant be too safe.

No srsly, u cant be too safe, i heard a story that last year in may, guys got into a "certain" sydney dealer, and stole an rx8 from pre-delivery and then broke in a few weeks later.

now this is either

1) bull@!#
2) an inside job
3) or an outside job with insider knowledge or just very f!@#@! persistent knowledgable outsiders.

My advise to you, hi-spec alarm and keep it locked up somewhere where there are roller doors whatever.
