Yes, tell your friends you did it so you can maintain your car better. I'm not sure my GF bought that story...
Well, I do like to practice preventative maintenance...

I definitely agree handling is worth the $$ but I wonder if I'm chasing something that'll only ever prove itself on a track anyways.

Might do a bit more research but thanks for the interest peeps.

Dave, there is also the issue of what happens if something goes wrong with the part you buy. What is the product manufacturers policy on returns, and where does it have to be sent to in case of inspection being required.

There are a few products that require you to send the product back to the manufacturer (as apposed to a licensed inspector, ie the local distributor).

Cheers

Andrew

i highly reccomment the Mazdaspeed suspension - i picked up the shocks/springs/front and rear tower braces and I couldnt be happier. I got a nice drop and you can definetly feel the improved performance in terms of handling/high speed cornering.

I have my racing beat exhaust on the way - unless a FI kit comes out within the next month or two I will probably be doing a lightweight flywheel + clutch install as the final prep towards being fully FI ready.

I also highly recommend the MS suspension. You would have noted that I toyed with the idea of selling them awhile ago before I had even installed them because I was having ongoing gearbox issues that werent being resolved and thought of selling the car. However, after finally having my gear issues resolved I decided to install the MS suspension and am extremely pleased with it. It has lowered about 1 inch , has eliminated body roll perfectly and is perfectly balanced. It is firmer than stock but definitely not harsh and is very OZ road friendly. Just my 2 cents worth.

um...Dave....what happened to the cheap track car option?

Surely, in terms of 'fun' and learning, that's a better investment?...and may keep 'er indoors at bay.

You can do a lot of work on a road car that (a) you can never really use on the road anyway; and (b) you'll never recoup when the car is sold.

I would say this is especially the case with the RX-8, which goes, handles and stops pretty damn well stock.

So, first, consider again what is driving your current impulse.

MissyK, I got my MS springs & shocks from onlinemazdaparts.com. I paid about $680US for them excluding the sway bars, and shipping was about $75US for shipping. However subsequently ordering the splash guards from them they informed me that they had mistakenly underquoted the shipping for my MS suspension by a large amount but honoured that quote anyway. I think that their shipping cost with delivery within 8 to 10 working days is actually about $180US..

Regarding labour costs, their were none as I did the install myself.

Yia Sou ya tora koukla.

Good advice Andrew. I'll look into that before making a decision.

Yeah, Timbo - I've been thinking on that option.

Had plenty of time because someone else is also still thinking...

Yes, it'd be fun but I don't exactly get mucho use from the 8, so justifying a second toy would be even harder. Indeed, 'er indoors is more likely to accept more $$ going into the 8 than another car hanging about taking up space.

I also think I'm more likely to get back to tracking when the kids are older - it's a bit time consuming and selfish when they're little.

As for the current impulse, I guess I just like modding and making something more mine. I mean, plenty of mods struggle for justification in the cold light of day but it's fun to do. You seriously gonna keep your Polo stock?
