a few idle questions about the newer builds (the one I am getting was built on 16 October 2006) :

- do they still come with a low-speed spare tyre?
- do they have the uprated alternator and larger battery (that you get on an older model if you complain about flooding)?
- do they use proper keys?

ok, so the key is different.

City Mazda (adl) are installing an alarm and tinting the windows, they are the only aftermarket options I chose. I now need to decide what to do for the exhaust ... do I get the same one as before (which, IMHO, sounds better than the Hymee and other custom jobs - but the JunBL resonator had to be tigwelded twice because of the inability to cope with the heat )?

Oh well, I'll sort that out later.

Wouldn't have failed due to heat (it's not that hot down the back). Poor design or vibration maybe? Poor welding?

The resonator is just behind the cat. The welds themselves (that the exhaust fitters) made, never failed. The resonator unit itself started to come apart at the (rear of) the cylinder where it joined the circular back plate.

Pressure then? Either way, that resonator unit couldn't cope...

Courtesy of a half-arsed throw into the keys basket and a resulting bounce off my tiled kitchen floor, I discovered this morning that 'er indoors spare switchbalde key doesn't like being dropped . It's in four pieces atm. Didn't have time to play with it, so I'll see if I can get it back together tonight...

Tell them to keep the wheel cover for you. It will make a very unique pizza plate.

how many years were left on your original loan, and how many years did the new loan add?

I had about 21 months on the original Esanda Finance ... and I have taken out a new 5 year loan.

I imagine in another 3 years I will do the same thing ... hopefully the series II rx8 will be out by then, or I might even consider a Supra ...

I actually forgot to look when I was at the dealer today, and you are right, I can't see it from that angle,

I'll look tomorrow.

The stock report with the VIN on it definitely says "SUNROOF", and I have paid for one.

Cool. It'd be interesting to see whether some dealerships are fitting the sunroof locally rather than getting the sunroof as a direct factory option.

I'm just down at the dealer now, the car definitely has a factory sunroof. That photo must have been taken at an unfortunate angle.

I pick the car up tomorrow.

Also , apologies if this post has weird formatting, my blackberry doesn't like rx8club.com.

I now have it. It's all the little differences that make it feel like a new car.

And the clutch feels a lot more forgiving than my old clutch ...

I love the colour.

I picked it up yesterday.
