sold my rx8 today
sold my rx8 today
... but I bought a new one.
My car left warranty a few months ago (I've had it since June 2003), and I took it in today to get a "failing coolant level" sensor replaced. Mazda are actually fixing it as a warranty issue, even though the car is outside the warranty period. Bigs ups to Mazda for that.
Then , because I was bored, I wandered into the dealership and asked one of the salesguys "could I trade my rx8 in on a new one, pay out my finance, and then get new finance for the same monthly rate?"
They valued the car, they looked at my payout, they said "yes". So I get a brand new car and continue with my normal monthly payments
Leather pack 6 speed manual with sunroof. Stormy Blue. A new colour for the rx8.
I should have it next week.
You can see the colour here, on the mx5 minisite.

I have been thinking about it for a while, and have recently taken the Alfa Brera (yuk!), the BMW 1 Series turbo job (horrible) and the BMW 330Ci (nice, but nothing over the rx8, and I would have to pay twice as much) for test drives. None were as satisfying or as fun to drive - and they were all more expensive.

Well done on not getting another red.... LOL
I like Stormy Blue, I wish I have an option to get a white one
BTW:
1) This thread is worthless without pics j/k
2) Get back on line and post again
3) You don't need break-in advice don't you
.
Congrats

.Congrats
how much did you lose in the trade in if you don't mind me asking (% is fine if you don't want to state how much you buy it for and how much the dealer valued it). Just want to know the approx resale value.

I will get the exhaust redone again, not sure about the flywheel, I'll have to see if I notice the difference (the slower, albiet still insanely fast, revving).

I'd think they were cooking the figures, except that I had the payout figure in front of me, when the valuer came in and independently gave me the resale figure for the car.
So, as I said in the opening post - I get a new car (with a bonus sunroof, which I didn't have before), and keep paying the same per month.
ie. I was pleasantly suprised by my resale value.

You will have to excuse me, I am new to the InterWeb, and didn't know there were other forums.
Grats on getting another 8. It's pleasing to know that after 4 years on the market, the 8 is still outshining it's competitors in the same (and higher) price brackets.
Welcome to the InterTron n00b. hehe.

Hey Dbb,
Hello there...will look out for you on the road.....live up Port Road myself....I like your colour..I nearly got that colour too but ended up getting the supposedly jinxed silver!
I too have found nothing else that tickles my fancy like the 8. Think I will be doing the same in 1 years time! Only change I will make is the colour. Will get a red one next!
Anyhow nice to meet another Adelaidian.....glad to know I'm not the only one to frequent the forum here.
See ya round maybe? If you fancy a drive to run in your rotor why not come for a motor in December to Phillip Island!

"what happened to the exhaust", not "you got a new one?"

Although I do have next Friday off, so I can take my position on the Hill to [ostensibly] watch the cricket.
It really is a no brainer though.
What are cars are there, within 50% of the price, that have :
A well sorted chassis with superb handling and dynamics
a six speed short throw gearbox and heavy clutch
rear wheel drive with LSD (AWD like the WRX cars *bore* me)
4 seater coupe
decent build quality and interior
a functional boot/trunk
Having a nice free revving rotary engine also helps :-)
The only thing that really comes close is the Holden Monaro / Pontiac GTO. But that is too big, and is really more of a muscle car than a sports car. Something like the G35 isn't an option either, as they are not sold in Australia.
