As for the petrol cap thing, I must be missing something that you people do while filling up. I take the cap off with my right hand, hold it while using the nozzle with my left hand and then put it back on again. Never gets near the paint work.

Could if we cut the little piece that holds it on, course why stand there holding the cap in one hand. I normally check my oil when filling up, or go inside to get drinks so having both hands free is nice. And this will allow both without the paint being touched......

Our caps come into the country sans lanyard.......

My method. Free, quick, easy. Just hook the cap onto the tang located on the inside of the door.

I don't like leaving the nozzle unattended so stick to doing one thing at a time.

And if I want to buy somehing I do it when I go in to pay for the fuel (haven't learnt to trust pay at the bowser card swipes either!).

Ahh, good old Aussie ingenuity.

But I'm still happy to hang onto it while filling up.

No - I hate photos of me. Haven't taken a good one since I was 6.

You'll have to come to the Nats and find out.

Mate, thank you for posting that. After seeing the item that made me post this thread, I started to wonder how many other people did that. I actually thought it was what it was for. But upon further instpection I noticed it stops the flap from going in to far!

Well said mate.
This is what went through my mind when I saw the pics with the cap sitting in the holder:

Step one. Unscrew the cap
Step two. Whoops I dropped it and it fell on the ground

No problem just pick it up and dust it off.

Insert silly fuel cap holder thingy

Step One. Unscrew the cap
Step two. Whoops I dropped it and it fell on the ground
Oh #$%^&* that nice handy cord that attaches it to the car so I cant loose it has swung it into the car and damaged the paint work....Maybe I should just hold it in my hand !

Just wondering if all your gas caps come without the attachment plastic and if all your gas caps have the groves in the sides so that you can slide it on the door.

Cause so far all the US ones are solid all the way around like the orginal picture, and thus simply sliding it on the door isn't possible less you buy a aftermarket one or cut the notchs.

Hmm, I think we're wasting valuable time on this non-problem but for what it's worth, mine is the same as Gomez's cap.

For those unable to hook it on the flap door just hang onto it as I do or hey, here's an idea, lay it on the bowser top while you're filling up, checking your oil, buying your drinks, checking the latest stock prices, adjusting your bra strap, etc, etc...

Hmm, wonder if my trunk monkey can source some skyhooks to solve this mighty dilemma. Group buy anyone?

Its not the slits/cuts in the sides that allow you to do it. Its the very small distance between the "hook" and the flap that allows you to sit it in there and it will just rest nicely....give it a go.

Mez, I would do it but I am out of the country, can you post a pic like the one you posted here, but from the side?

Not without dragging the camera outside and making the neighbours wonder what the weirdo next door is doing taking photos of his petrol cap at midnight.......
