I put in V-Power this morning, but it wasn't my original intention. My Shell servo has replaced 95RON with 91RON+10%ethanol. My only possibility was the V-Power at $1.24/L instead of $1.07/L for regular 91RON or 91RON with the EtOH. I was mightily pissed off. It's a way of kicking anyone with a modern motor in the guts. There's lots of cars out there now with a need for 95RON minimum.

I filled up at a Shell this morning too as it happens and noticed that they had 91, 95 and 98 RON available.

Perhaps some franchisees are just going for top and bottom and cutting out the middle level?

This V power racing thing from Shell really pisses me of. One week they intorduce in on the fuel station like it was some kind of a revolution in the industry and a week after it is not even available, month after is there again and week again gone once again. Sydney just sucks, even the V power wasn't available around the city area last weekend.

Well if I want to buy it I have to drive 718km according to the Shell website.

What a crock! I tried the other fuel in my car....V Power...makes no difference at all to my economy.... Seems like this is all marketing hype.....just as I thought!

Rotor = fun = who cares about economy...

I think for normal stock 8, ron 98 and 100 will not make too much differences, unless you have an aftermarket ecu or fuel controller and fine tuned. Ron 95 fuel is the minimum, however just keep in mind that the ron number is sitting in 95% confident interval, which means the ron number can go between 92 - 97.
V-power and V-power racing is out of stock in Sydney, and this happened last year around Christmas as well. In my opinion, use V-power or other ron 98 fuel instead going to ron 100 unless your car ecu is tuned for ron 100.

You will need a really fine tune on ignition timing to get the real different between ron 95, 98 and 100. But just one thing, there was reports from WRX owners about problem with ethonal fuel in their fuel delivery system, those plastic parts.

Mazda claim that a 10% ethonol blend is safe for the Rx8 (I assume that they considered the delivery system when publishing it)

My experience with ethanol blends to date is dearer fuel and less fuel economy for the same power output. Tested on a numbr of long distance runs between cities that I used to make on a regular basis. Mostly on cruise control at about 110 -120 kph.

I have recently tried the Shell v-power and like rotoconvert didn't observe any difference in performance or economy.

The shell reacing v-power is not available locally for me and its available aoutlets are too far away to warrent going out of my way to get it. I may try it one time to see if there is a noticable difference. Until then my local BP is likely to get the bulk of my business.

Cheers.... Otto
