Satellite Navigation

I am emigrating to Australia next year from the UK. My RX-8 has satellite navigation. Is there an Australia DVD available for it?

Mazda offer Sat Nav here (in limited numbers I believe) so there must be Maps available.

Are you transporting the car here?

Have you considered whether it might be cheaper to sell it in the UK and pick up another car over here?

Welcome BTW and hope you like your new home.

I knew about the SAT NAV from the Japanese version when I bought my RX-8 a few years ago.

**** retards at the dealerships tried lieing to me that it didn't exist then lied again saying Mazda Australia would never offer it for sale when I proved them wrong the day I picked up my car.

Sent a letter to Mazda Australia asking if it becomes an option, can I get it retrofitted. They never bothered to reply. Typical after they took $66k of my cash.

Great product - Rotten company

I believe there were 10 RX-8's sold in Australia with Sat Nav. That's it...no more. Search for a thread I started about it earlier this year.

www.smh.com.au has some articles and a 'your say' blog today about satnav - sorry, couldn't be bothered going back to give you direct links.

The 'your say' blog is the usual drivel - I never seem to get past more than ten posts before losing interest in those things.

Exactly. Even if it was 1 sold it means there is a set of maps that work with the Mazda Sat Nav system. Unless of course that the Sat Nav system is different between countries.

Not units, but there could be a difference in the base map. Many of the GPS units have a country level base map that includes major highways and a detail map. The detail map can be updated or replaced, but the base map can not. The effect is that if you install the detail map over the wrong base map, then when you zoom out you get a blank screen.. Basemaps can only be installed by the manufacturer's wholesaler in that country.. It seems to be the GPS equivalent of DVD region codes and is meant to prevent grey market imports from countries that sell the units at a lower price.

Fair enough. In which case you would want to speak to your mazda dealer about whether Mazda do this.

The system uses software utilised in the Ford Falcon Sat Nav, so map upgrades will be available into the future.

Two cars have been sold already, there are eight left. All eight are Leather Packs and they come in either Red or Silver. I have no idea of the transmission types....

These eight cars are being sold with Sat Nav as a no-cost option .

City Mazda in Melbourne have scooped them all up....ring them if you want one. They'd just sold the one they'd had in the showroom, hopefully another one will be in stock when I drop in next week. I'll see if I can grab a photo then. Here's a Yankee photo to whet your thirst.....

Cheers,

Gomez.
I caved in and used the search button.
