Sat in my RX 8 - Sydney

Saw a silver RX8 on the road (mechanic test drive) Pacific Hwy Chatswood, and dropped into find my Blue one 5 minutes from being on the show room floor !!!

Obviously waited, and got to hop inside with my 3 kids. Good news is my son (187cm tall) was comfortable in the back (his head touched the roof but not uncomfortable).

Wow, this is an amazing car...

They are saying they can release them on 29th.

Good news is... they are locking them up and not allowing anyone (except the owners) inside.

The blue is an amazing colour, darker than I expected, but the colour changes with the light amazingly.

So, can't wait for the Eastern Creek drive day.

My dealer just called me, and he said that he has a red one at the dealer. I went to have a look, man the car looks gorgeous. The car is due for delivery monday. There is also one Nordic Green.

mssyd, how is the Blue? Is it bright blue, sort of electric blue? I hope it is. Thanks

BTW, are you going to the morning session or the afternoon session? I am going for the morning session. It will be nice to see some forum members at the drive day.

OK, I haven't been able to stop thinking about the car since then...

The Blue is quite amazing... it is lighter than any of the other blues in the showroom.... but it isn't a candy colour... when the light doesn't shine on it it is quite dark, but not a royal blue. When the light is on it (I didn't see it in natural light only in the showroom) it is quite bright. This contrast really helps to show the detail and shape of the car.

I'm also going in the morning so I'll see you there...

Also, anyone whose interested can see it at the Eurocars Mazda at Artarmon, it's in the showroom with the silver one. Just don't scratch it !

Well after reading your posts last night I called my dealer at Brookvale this morning and found out that there is a Red Hi-Power in the showroom. Considering that this is the model and colour that I ordered it would have been nice for my sales rep to call me and invite me to see it......but then we all know that the Mazda sales reps have absolutely no clue what customer service is don't we !

So I drove down there and WHOAH ! How gorgeous is our car people ! For the first few minutes I just walked around the car with a big grin on my face. The sales rep asked what I thought of it and my answer was "what can I say ? It gorgeous."

I definately agree with other forum member's comments that the RX-8 looks far better in the metal than in photos. In particular I thought from the rear it sits lower and wider than I thought, and the wheels look fatter than in pictures. The alloy rims are deep and the rubber almost protrudes from the wheel arches, giving a very sporty stance.

I spent about an hour checking out the car. I sat in all the seats, adjusted the power drivers seat and the steering wheel to a comfortable position. I was correct in my assumption that because the seats are set low to give good headroom, your legs are almost straight when using the pedals. The drivers seat doesn't have a quick release for the seat back (the front passenger seat does have one) but even so, the rear seats are pretty easy to get into. I had no problem at all. You need to lift your feet in and under the front seats, but once there I found the back seats really confortable. I closed the rear door to find out if it really is 'claustrophobic' in there (as suggested by one or two press articles). I don't think it is. Sure it's snug, but you're comfortable and so long as the air-con keeps the cabin at a good temperature I'm sure passengers will be perfectly fine, even for long journeys.

I had a play with the air-con and audio controls. The air is excellent, using controls simlar to a jog-shuttle on a VCR to change most of the settings. The audio, whilst only FM radio, sounded clear, balanced and powerful.

One last comment, those two LEDs on each rear light cluster are actually the side lights. There is a red reflector behind them, so when switched on, the light emitted bounces off the reflectors and gives a nice glow around the two central points of light.

Hope the next couple of weeks go REALLY quickly !!

Great post PDU...

My dealer said he wouldn't have called as he didn't want to start a crush... what was he thinking ?

Anyway... please you loved the car, my wife was away yesterday and I took her up this morning... she also thinks it's amazing...

So... I'm counting the days...

msydd,

I'm taking my wife to check it out tomorrow. Up until now I think she thinks I'm a bit mad with the enthusiasm and excitement I've shown for the RX-8. But I think once she sees it and sits in it and gets to absorb the fact that she's going to be driving it soon, she'll understand why I've been like a monkey locked outside a banana warehouse !

PDU tht is amazing... my wife admits that she has been joking with her friends (nicely) about my fixation with this "stupid" car. Once she started reading the reviews she turned the corner, and now that she's seen it she is hooked.

Good luck with your visit...

Red face

so PDU
your dealer let you sit inside the car??
is that the car you pre-ordered
or is that someone elses??

if it is someone elses, I thought they are not allow anyone to go inside the car, they should have locked.

I better check with my dealer
just in care my car came, ask him to promise me don't put it into the showroom, I dont want anyone to sit in my car before me:o

Is the Blue one at Eurocars floor is yours? If it is, I touched it!! I try my best not to drool over it too. The car looks gorgeous. Your car is the first blue I've seen. Your car is also the first blue in Sydney I believe.

Ohh..
There is a black RX-8 at Hornsby Mazda
Which is a display car, so we can sit inside.
The spare tire at the back took up a lot of space, definitely gonna remove it!!
The car look awesome in both interior and exterior
