What advertizing they do is more to enhance the brand image than be product-specific.

True, I think I only saw one advert 3 years before buying this car. The advert really had nothing to do with it.

MX-5 being the top sports car seller in 2006 with 1468 units sold.
Redeemed Joking, I really only guessed based on MX5 Sales. Would love to see previous years though but VFACTS only has down to Manufacturer for prior years

Atleast Mazda is making a good show of it in the Sports Cars under $80K segment. It means they have a real and viable segment to import cars into. As long as people keep buying Mazda sports cars... (and lets face it, there is not that many Japanese "light weight" sports cars out there) we should enjoy new models from Mazda into the future.

Honda are ditching the Civic Type X, Integra and S2000, in favour of a new Legend models. Celica went a last year?? with no firm plans from Toyota for a Supra/Celica replacement. What are you left with from Japan?... 350Z or a tweeked up passenger car.

Off topic: I liked the 350Z but just could not love it, like I do the 8. The Nissan dealer even discounted it another $6000 after I said I was going to buy the 8. Did not stop me though

now they need to work on how to maintain a half decent resale value of their sports cars.

From what I've seen the resale on the RX8 is about average.

Some good points there Kall.

There's "talkers" and there's "doers". Give me doers anytime.

Yes, a better word.

I think I'm a talker AND a doer.

Mind you, I'm gonna own a 911 one day too.

RE: Missy and others last posts........

WTF !! - That came straight out of left field.

No-one in this thread has bagged the clubs that are around or forming, and no-one has bagged the dependancy of victorian members on each other or their family bond.
You have very loosely tied a completely different subject to the observation and discussion of RX8 advertising and sales.

Why stand on your soap box, blow your own trumpet, and then label other users of the forum as talker or gonna's. It was completely unprovoked.
Everyone who reads the forums and participates in events knows there are people who put in a great deal of time effort and passion to the sharing of knowledge and the organising of events and it is plainly obvious who those people are.

Is this what you need - On behalf of everyone who's life circumstances are different to yours or don't put in as much effort as you "THANKYOU" for the enjoyable dicussions and knowledge you bring to the forums and the events for which you attribute your time to.

The simple fact is that there are people who own, love and enjoy their 8's who only want or are able to share the experience of owning an 8 in the forums. This does not give members who interact with other members on a social level the instant right to belittle them.

Have a Good One
FURY

Agree with that Fury. Can't speak for Kall but I was referring to people who say they're gonna attend things like cruises and track days, etc but never do - which is why I agreed that Ezzy had a better name for them. I also get a bit pissed off with the occasional miscreant who bags the initiative of others in organising something but doesn't get off his or her own butt to do anything constructive.

Obviously, merely participating in the forum to share info and enjoy a bit of banter is no cause for censure and I don't think that was Kall's intention (and it certainly wasn't mine). Everyone has their own comfort level for participation and I respect that.

As for context, I think it loosely fits into the support and promotion of the car, given there seems to be agreement that the target market doesn't require direct advertising to be aware of the car's existence. A club can assist that promotion and raise the general awareness of the car's existence amongst the wider public - e.g. 15-20 RX8's on a club cruise is hard to miss and DOES cause Joe Average to take a second look at a car he might not have noticed on the road before.

Fury,

One of the things that attracts a lot of people to buy the mx-5 is the activity of the mx-5 club. To me that is a form of advertising and Mazda and their dealers agree. They invest into the club and have been for years. So no, its not off topic.

I dont believe that MissyK was asking for a thank you for herself or on behalf of anyone else. What I believe she was getting at was that the negative behaviour that has been going on since we started the club is frustrating. Especially when people like MissyK have directly contributed to the enjoyment some of those people have with their car.

Cheers

Andrew

Well, if you can count that, I've definitely got the ratio right.
