Revolvermobile gets Hymeed

Well, after lots of reading and pestering Hymee with repeated questions, I have hit the go button on one of his supercharger kits for the Revolvermobile.

So far this feels like a very good thing ( ) but time will tell...

I thought I'd start this thread to document the process and invite questions, comments, etc in the interests of increasing the local knowledge pool on this kind of engine mod. I'm not suggesting I can answer all (or any!) of the technical questions but I'm happy to provide the mug customer's point of view in the process, which might assist others to make a decision on whether to go or no.

I'll kick off by saying Hymee has been, as usual, a pleasure to deal with. Responsive to queries and no bullshit in his responses. I've been happy with the quality of other Hymee products for my 8 and after the lengthy gestation process of the supercharger kit I don't doubt it's been well designed, tested and constructed.

To forestall further debate about whether it is the right choice (see recent turbo v supercharger thread), I am satisfied that it is the right thing for my goals with the car and my driving, so I'd rather concentrate on this kit rather than debate that further.

Obviously installation and initial tuning is important, so I have elected to make enquiries with Danny, who some of you will have met at last year's Nats at Lakeside. Danny is shortly to install the kit on his MX5 racecar (see thread of awesomeness on that) and has ordered another for his RX8. Once he's done that, we're going to work something out. It'll mean getting the car to Brisbane and back, but I figure that's worth it for a number of reasons.

So, early days but it's exciting and I'm looking forward to seeing what happens...

I understand from Hymee that he's working on a Sydney shop to partner with.

Awesome! I have always thought that a SC is the way to go for the RX8. Bags a ride in the passenger seat on the street and at the track when you get it intsalled..

He's almost ready for a trial build of one of the kits, then he'll send the rest of the pieces he's made to the anodizer, and ship them all out. Should not be too much longer until some Hymee systems start poppin up. I believe all of the CNC bits are made, gears cut, blower has been in stock for a while.

I'll be making a build thread as soon as I receive some parts as well.

No delivery time advised yet but I'm not in a burning hurry because I want to wait until Danny has fitted his first - I don't like being the first guinea pig down the shute!

Paying deposit today...

For sure Matt. If you promise to be careful you might even get a drive.

For those keen on more info about the kit, check this thread https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-major-horsepower-upgrades-93/hymee-gets-supercharged-part-2-a-36376/ ....and make sure you've got a six pack and plenty of time.

Pick me, pick me!

Good one Dave. I reckon this is the way to go, based on my experience with FI 8's. Linear power is a wonderful thing

Power wise the results are very predictable - just look at the Pettit and figure it will be equivalent to the stage 2 kit at best .
Fit and finish and bling factor is where this kit should shine above anything else we have seen so far .

Did they make or lose money on the MX5 SP? That might have had something to do with it...together with emissions regs, etc.

Congratulations on your decision to go FI. Most of us that have been here for a while would be thinking the same thing.

It may be worth getting a compression test done before going FI due to the age of your engine.

Thanks. I've been thinking of doing that. See if I have any problems with it. Mind you, I'm yet to crack 60K, so it's old but hasn't done a lot of miles...
