R Magic Triple Piper Cleaner (Air filter)

This is a 3 layer Pipercross filter which is popular amoung WRC (that is what it says in the ad ).

They said normal paper style (even with the MazdaSpeed one I had) will expand under humid condition (prob not in Australia though ).

You can wash them in clean water, hang them dry them 100% and reuse them.

There is a lot of blah blah blah in the ad but the bottom line is 7350 Yen (less than AUD$100).

Japanparts.com can get them easily

I wonder how many of you will be interested... I am not posting a group buy but if it does eventuate, we will have to go through the offical channel (ie Hymee's approval as he is the bloody moderator :D)

Just had a flash of brilliance, I'm off on a 3 week world trip on Sunday and meeting a mate who lives in Japan in Sri Lanka at a conference w/c 20th. Could get him to pick up one or a few depending on bulk. Looks like I'm transitting via Sydney so could drop off a couple into the post. (I stress a couple)

Put me down for one as well Taka. Any idea if they require oiling after cleaning like other foam or fabric filters eg (K&N) etc or is it a dry filter?

100% certain not a paper filter. It is a 3 layer foam filter. it is a poly... uthine... foam :p

Not 100% sure on oiling though :o. From what I am gather from the ad that it is a foam type and no mention of oiling. If they are oiled they usually said it is the oiled type. But I am sure it does not need a cleaning agent to clean the thing... and they said in that ad that you need to dry them 100% before reinstall. No mention of oiling.

Mike, it will be good for your friend to check it out. Super Autobarc that I visited in Yokohama carries R Magic stuff and ordering them only take a day or so. And certainly will get a touch under the RRP. The problem is bulk. Normal suit case will probably only able to carry 20 (if you have a large one).

They are light so I think the EMS cost will not be much. Unless you are very keen, the good are actually covering the whole distance around the world accroding to your plan :p

Yeah hardly worth it i guess, seemed a good idea after a big brazillian BBQ dinner, a few beers and a good bottle of Pinot.
Am off to US , UK, Belgium and Sri Lanka, only a couple of days in each city, too damn short to go hunting down parts, but am going to keep my eyes open.
What do you think of the "green" filters?
MIght be able to pick up in the US.

I think they are slightly better than stock, on par with K&N, oiled type

ITG and Pipercross are 3 layers... can't beat those

not neccescary, it's just another money making scam well, the only good thing is that it's washerable and it saves replacement when the dealers service your car.
and it's simple to install

doesn't do much, it's just a useable air filter element to replace your existing one. i think a 15yr old can do this install easily...

Just unscrew a few screws, unplug the MAF sensor, take the upper part of the intake box out, take the existing air filter element out then out then out a new one back in and put everything together again.

hrmmm but your case miss.rx8, im not so sure... joking:p

No even need a screwdriver, you just unplug the clips and take the old filter out put the new filter in.

Stiock paper filter is restrictive. this filter is reusable and better.

Mazda charge prob the same to replace stock filter.

it isup to you.

I can gurantee one thing.

It will be better than K&N typhoon intake. On par with most intake out there.
Better than stock filter

Maybe worse than Racing Beat Revi intake (since they have a bigger intake mouth).

And there should be very little hp gain if any

I've had the typhoon for a while now, and i think it sounds wonderful.
Taka,
When you say guarantee its better, what makes typhoon the worst intake out there?
Are there more gains to be had with the piper cleaner? or is it better/cleaner for your engine?

I remember reading something about the surface area of the Typhoon being quite small and so not much better than a stock filter. If they had given it as much surface area as the stock filter then it would have been much better...Now that I have said that I cant recall where I read that.

Thats one thing that the pipercross filter will have over the typhoon anyway. Its as big as the stock filter and less restrictive air flow.

Only if you don't have a plastic shield anymore and you are getting cabin air which is 20 degree higher from the air outside. So I think you should get the stock air box from you garage and some how fit it in. Otherwise, K&N will be very similar material as in the ITG and pipercross. The latter two just very slightly better, but I am sure not by a lot.

I have tested sCANalyser on the Typhoon without air box... I was sweating looking at the intake temp . Please believe me.

In terms of this filter

1. I don't think there will be any gain with the piper. May be 1 ps just to make you feel better?

2. But will be certainly cleaner air compare to stock. The stock filter is not much different from the filter I had stock from the Civic, Integra I had and even my 98' Camry I also have now. I am sorry but it is just the same material but different shape.

3. Foam type filter generally flow better than the paper style.

Red face Bad news

Got a quote from Japanparts.com

It will be estimated about $150 each (allowing tax and postage from me to you.)

If there were no tax we may save $10.

It is at cost.

Most of the costing are from the Air Fleight to here. It ain't cheaper by too much per item as individually.

Are we still interested or is it easier to order from Koji individually?? I reckon is about the same if you have other things to order as well.

Anyway see what you guys think ... I am not fuss

Taka
