Qld Raceway Sprints 17 July

Ok Guys,

Who is up for a track day. It has been a few months for me & I am itching to have another go.

The full details of the day can be found at Queensland Raceway Web Site I have been three times now and participated twice. It is an awesome day. You do not really know what an RX-8 is all about until you take it to the track.

The last time we went we had 3 RX-8s on the track plus Hymee as pit crew.

Let me know who is interested and we can organise to cruise down there together.

Hey you guys,

It is great to have some spectators coming along.

Nevertheless I think some of you guys may have the wrong impression of this event. This is not V8 Supercars. You go as fast as your comfort zone allows. The idea is to have fun - not be Mark Skaife. The last time I went I was the slowest of the 3 RX-8s out there. Did that stop me having fun? - No. That is why I am doing it again. I am not competing against other people. I am out there to HAVE FUN and stay within my comfort zone. When you get out there nobody tells you how hard to go. That power is in everyone's right foot!

Hey Hymee are you pit crew or driver?

Let me guess what happened.... Hymee is this site MA rated?

hehe :D

The fun I agree with smoothy is to do better than you did last time. Not to compare with others. Pretty much like riding long distance cycling event - you are only compete to you and the condition but not the others

Ok, So far we have the following RX-8s going - probably!

Driving
Myself
Dragtoys
Haddock
(THis is the same guys as last time)
Pit Crew
SKC
Lock & Load
Pit Crew/Driving? (ie not sure - sorry Hymee!)
Hymee

I will also have a couple of my mates along one drives a Nissan 200sx and the other a Subaru B4.

Last time we met at the BP Service station at Goodna before proceeding onto the track. From memory we met at 11.00am in order to get up there in time to get one of the pit lane bays. We only just arrived in time to get one. I am thinking that for those of us that are driving we should meet up at the BP at 10.30am. This should mean we get a better pit lane bay. (A good pit lane makes it easier to get in the queue for your 3rd session)

I will update attendees closer to the date but this should get the ball rolling for the moment. If anyone has any other ideas about the day please post here.

Regards,

Steve

nb The car should sound a lot better this time with my Hymee exhaust on board.

OK,
It looks like we do not have any more starters.
Could those of you that are going to do track work send me a confirmation by PM (or email, telephone if you already have those numbers)
The best time to arrive for those of you that are coming out for a look is about 1.00pm ish. Look forward to meeting up with you.

A couple of hints for anyone that is going to do trrack work for the first time.
  • Download and fax the entry form to QLD Raceway ahead of time. It saves you $10 plus hassle on the day.
  • You need to wear full length clothing.
  • Take a helmet if you have one (otherwise they will hire you one on the day)
  • Put about 40psi in your tyres.
  • Check your oil levels.
  • Remove any loose debris from the car (Could be dangerous on the track in the event of a crash)
  • Get ready for a great day!

I am looking to switch camps and have a go at driving.

I understand I will need a racing license as well. Do I have to arrive early for this?

skc,

You just buy the licence from their office on the day. All it means is that you will have to queue a bit longer. We should be getting there fairly early so time shouldn't be an issue. (Just less time to read the paper)

Great to see we will have another participant. I look forward to meeting you.

I'll try to make sure Hymee doesn't get the best lap - but as usual I will be making sure that I drive home that night!

Sorry to hear you probably won't make it - Maybe next time we go out.

Cheers,

Steve
PS - Not sure Hymee is going to be out there anyway!

Look forward to meeting you skc,

Don't worry about first time on the track. We are NOT racing. Just enjoying our cars. Go as fast as you are comfortable with.

By the way please send me a PM so we can finalise meeting at the BP

Cheers

I thought the RX8 would be quicker due to the twisty circuit

My SS put down 235kW at the rear wheels, and I had full slicks on at the time

On street tyres I could do 1:07's So perhaps the 8 is pretty much on par. There is a long straight and a short straight on the sprint circuit, so HP does count to a certain extent. But the 8's should be able to carry more corner speed.

Cheers,
Hymee.
