I agree completely Ash - if MA agree to an extended warranty, and it costs less than $1-00 to post a letter we all win.... but then perhaps some people just don't care.
Untill it comes down to problem time, then you will hear the screams of anguish from miles away!

That's it Ash - keep revving them up.

Plenty of talkers in here, not as many doers. Takes 5 mins to get a letter off in the post and rest assured written complaints/requests do hit home, precisely because so many people these days couldn't be bothered.

Cost of sending a letter vs cost of engine repair ... that's enough motivation for me to send that letter out.
Especially when I strongly think that we are entitled to it as much as our US RX8 owners.

Frankly if we fail it will be because we were not united, but apathetic.

And I will remind EVERY one of you when you start bagging Mazda you had the perfect opportunity to speak out.

I would hate to name Members, you know who you are, the ones that Post ALL the time, have their bitch about Mazda and when the crunch comes...SHALLOW!!!

I think that's their approach when they want to buy some 'thinking time'...

Probably waiting to see if they get more than a dozen or so letters - i.e. lunatic fringe or something that may register.

Or could be waiting to see how the launch goes with the new model..sales wise..

Then Mazda Australia may announce a new engine warranty policy...!! wishful thinking...you never know..

I think Mazda will get a 'dead cat bounce' with the new 8..

From your extended engine warranty letter Pappy?
Yeah, sorry , I remember your post.
Thanks and great that you let us all know.

Interesting to see the outcome, MA are perhaps waiting for more letters before a response?

So no one yet has had a letter back saying...NO to any warranty extension?

Hi Ash,

Hopefully MA decides to show some level of consistency with regards to the extended warranties starting to be applied to RX8's in other parts of the world. All these vehicles originated from the same factory (I suspect?) and hence "should" be treated the same.

Cheers,

Pappy

My only suggestion is to get more forum members sending their letters out.
We've got nothing to lose and all to gain from an extended engine warranty.
Peace of mind for starters.

There is a guy (onloan) on the OZ site who needs a rebuild..

https://www.rx8club.com.au/forum/vie...?p=32607#32607

Here is a case where Mazda Australia should assist...

A CAR THAT IS JUST 4.5 YEARS OLD SHOULD HAVE AN ENGINE THAT LAST LONGER!

Ok Guys..
I have been informing our UK friend who also has been seeking a response from Mazda Motors UK (Europe)

Thank you for your e-mail dated 13 June 2008 addressed to a number of Mazda Motors UK Limited employees.

On behalf of everyone that you addressed I will be as open and honest with you as I possibly can in respect of your enquiry.

The extended warranty in the US was taken on commercial grounds to help boost RX-8 sales in the States and to match competitor warranties, the basic warranty in the States remains at three years, 60,000 miles with the balance being an aftermarket warranty. The US market is very different to ours in the UK and Europe and extended warranty terms are not unusual as a marketing initiative to drive sales.

In the UK and Europe we believe that a three year warranty is both competitive and in line with the market expectations and we do not anticipate changing that position. Mazda has always had a very good reputation for reliability and durability throughout Europe which has been evident through a number of notable awards such as JD Power Customer Satisfaction, and it is this level of reliability that will continue with future product.

I would stress that if a UK Mazda RX-8 customer experiences an engine failure outside of the 3 year / 60,000 mile warranty, due to a manufacturing defect, we will always look at each case and where appropriate assist customers with their repair costs. Although to date the number of such cases is very low, we will continue to apply this policy.

I trust that this has answered your questions.

I want to add here...

THIS DOES NOT MEAN THAT AUSTRALIA CAN NOT GO IT ALONE...WITH THE USA.

IT AIN'T OVER YET!

Please keep your letters going to Mazda Australia,
Our European RX-8 friends have not mailed any campaign to Mazda UK

Thanks Ash. Kudos to UK Mazda though for a detailed, frank and informative response. It may still be a 'no' but at least they explain why and I can respect those commercial reasons.

The people at Mazda Australia could learn a lot from seeing communications like those. Beats crap out of a shitty postcard and then nothing...

Dave,
It did take Mazda UK, 3 weeks to reply.

My issue is that we are only just starting to see all those early 04 RX-8's with engine issues, they are just out of warranty.

One would expect any engine to last more than 4 years.

Well, have there been any other "active" members who have emailed or written to Mazda Australia?

I am very disappointed with the lack of responses here by AUSTRALIAN RX-8 owners, why are you so bloody apathetic, what are you all afraid of, Mazda and your existing warranty?

Are you that lazy you can not be bothered...WHAT" SAY SO!

I want to hear your views, I would respect you owners more if you commented rather than just read the thread, sat on the fence or moved on.

IF there is anything that comes from this YOU WILL BENEFIT ALSO.

Posting my leter in the morning!

I have my letter written and the envelope is addressed and the stamp applied!
It will be posted tomorrow. At the time I purchased my car Mazda Australia was offering a 4 year factory warranty and this encouraged me to choose an RX8 over a 350Z. Obviously Mazda felt they needed to offer this promotional sweetener to move the last few vehicles before the "new " model arrived this year. At the time I think I felt a tad lucky, ( maybe even a bit "special ") to have secured the added year of factory warranty . In fact I was so impressed I went and bought a new Mazda 2 as well ! I now know that Mazda had the capacity to offer a substantially more meaningful warranty . Tens of thousands of RX8 owners on other parts of the planet are obviously getting a much better deal than I got and I no longer feel "special".....

This thread deserves a bump. Anyone heard anything from Mazda yet?
And if you have not send your letter out, what are you waiting for?

Still nothing better than a crappy postcard. I'm thinking that they believe if they hide under their desks long enough it'll all go away...
