Apart from both being stylish, I can't see the similarities.
If anything, the profile more resembles the FD RX7 if you really squint.

A bit of D Type Jag in the rear guards, RX8 roof and tumblehome, and a little SLK in the front styling...?

The Jag concept is closer to the 8. I guess being part of the Ford stable might have something to do with it.

It looks like it's been blown up with a bicycle pump to me.

Perhaps it was designed for people who want to take their inflatable King's Cross doll for a drive....

Scary on both cars.

But saying that eveeryone copies Mazda

FD RX-7 = Viper, Conrvette C5 etc etc
RX-8 = Chev Concept, Jag concept and now alpha

Also Ford aren't allowed to use Mazda's MX and RX platforms :D So they jag will never be as great as the RX-8

There are lots of cars that look a little like ours, but let's be honest - much of the RX8 design was hardly unique.

MGs did exactly the same 'suicide door' thing 70 years ago, and if you look at some of the old Lotus and Lola designs (even bits from one of the Mercedes sports models) you can find just about every element of the RX8 design.

Japanese car makers are more famous for 'adapting and improving' that they are for genuine originality or innovation, and I don't think the RX8 is really a major departure from that trend. I can't think of anything (even the engine) that is genuinely original on the RX8, much as I love the way it's all been refined and combined.
