Optima Battery Question?

Anyone got an Optima battery in the RX8?
I was told by a battery shop that it could not fit without changing the lead arrangement and I am sure I have seen an RX8 with one since then.I want to get a dry cell battery as my battery keeps leaking when i corner hard.

I think I answered this in .com.au. As Michael said you need the R model but I haven't found anyone that stocks them, they have to be special ordered. Also they are Very heavy.

Are they heavier than a stock battery? Do you have one?

I have the D35 (650CCA) and it weighs roughly 17kg. The D51R is only 450CCA and weighs 12kg.

The original OEM battery weighed 9.5kg and the replacement one 16.8kg. https://www.rx8club.com/rx-8-racing-25/weight-stock-rx8-parts-81791/

Why did the replacement weigh so much more?

Because it went from a 400 odd CCA battery to a 650 to help with flooding and cold start issues.

Knowing Matt's 'weight issues', I can almost hear the dismay in his voice on this one...

Odyssey. But it wont help either. You either have to be carefull with cold starts, flooding etc and go for a lower CCA battery. Or suck it up and go with the heavier battery. Remembering that the battery is mainly for starting (exception is running accessories when the car isnt running). Once its running its the alternator that does all the work.
