EVO 10 Driven

Well went and test drove an evo 10 today just for the sake of comparing difference between the new and older models. I wasnt impressed.

Interior looks crap. Power windows switches look like something out of a hyundai getz. Seats hug u nicely but are otherwise very hard and uncomfortable.

Steering has changed from a race feel to more of a luxury, golf type steering.

Suspension was nice but i drove the GSR with PP.

Boot space is less than the 9 now, doesnt come with a spare altho the car is bigger and heavier.

Overall, it was a disappointment for me. After owning an evo 9, this thing just reminded me of a Golf GTI more than a true evo.

Curious what other ppl think...

We did some drive days with EVO 10 in Singapore back in February, I thought it was a fantastic car. It's definitely not an EVO 9 though. The more time we spent in it the more we liked it, certainly a softer car than the 9.

Wonder how soft are we talking about? I wanna compare STi Vs EVO IX VS BMW 135i like the other magazine did. I will pick one of these car early next year.

the X is pretty soft in comparison to the evo ix. I guess it depends what you are after. The sales dude told me that its a different target market now. they are targetting the Golf GTi, R32 market and thats why its softer or how they put it more refined.

I do want a soft luxury. That is why 135 is in the mix!

The idea of the soft top 135i with 220kW is very attractive. The leather is very nice in BMW. The drive is not perfect with e-LSD and RF tyres.

I love convertibles! years ago I had a mx-5 on loan for a few months and it's just great driving round with the top down. I was eyeing off the little BMW convertible: the photos make it look good but I'd like to see it in person.

Your completely wrong and it sounded like you are giving everyone bad information.
Interior is FAR better than the previous gen with the availability of an indash navigation system and a higher quality plastic for the trims.

Steering did not change by a huge margin your trying to make.. The Evo 9 steering ratio was 13.0:1 The Evo X steering ratio is 13.3:1 Thats not a noticeable difference. Most people agree both cars have the same feel for the road so quit BSing and over exaggerating.

The GSR is the one with the better suspension than the MR. The MR has "softer" bilistien suspension, which in turn leads to a bit weaker handling. Most magazines and reviewers agree the X has better overall handling with the S-AWC system than the previous generation.

The boot space is smaller but there IS a spare tire and a kit, its underneath the carpet.

I currently have an intake and an exhaust on my X, I made 310WHP. That is more than what the previous gen would of made. Check out EVOM forums and you can see that people are making 60-70WHP from a simple tune and no additional bolt ons. STOCK turbo it is possible to make 400WHP with no internal changes as the stock injectors are 650cc.

Stop spewing BS, I suggest everyone should test drive the X instead of listening to a bias review and make sure the car has the 2 power update reflashes from Mitsubishi.

LOL chill out dude. You obviously bought a 10 and ur happy with it so good for you. I'm giving everyone here my opinion and altho u might think its BS, thats your opinion.

I drove the GSR with Performance pack and that had the bilsteins in it. I didnt say the suspension was bad but if you read my post properly, u prolly would have seen that i said it was actually nicer ride than the 9.

I was told by the sales dude that there was no spare, and they only have the glue that helps repairs a puncture in there. I'm just relaying what was told mate so dont have to bite my head off for it.

Steering does feel softer compared to the 9 IN MY OPINION. I dont care about your stats, its my personal feeling. When i turn the wheel in the 9 the whole car responds immediately, where's the 10 didnt feel as responsive.

As with regards to your mods, good work congratulations, you are awesome. But what i said was the FEEL of the car felt slower and as stated in subsequent posts, its coz the power is more linear. I never said it was slower, just that it felt slower. I never mentioned anything about mods. Im sure as with all evos, mods will make the 10 a real weapon.

Dude grow up. Ppl are here to give their opnions even if it is biased. I mean i used to drive a 9 so obviously i'm biased. I stated that clearly. I didnt say DONT GO TEST DRIVE IT did i? Go test drive it and give us your opinion. Thats what a forum is for.

I didnt mean to bite your head off... But I was just going by cold hard facts instead of feelings. If you can feel the .3 ratio difference in the steering then thats cool.. I live in the USA and the GSR does not get the bilistien which is softer. Only the MR gets it so I suppose thats a difference between USA and AUS models.

Dude
if everyone went by cold hard facts then whats the pt of test driving a car.

Its a completely different car to the 9 so thats why i was doing teh comparison. I dont buy a car coz the facts tell me its a great car, i buy one coz i like how it drives and i personally didnt like how it drives comparatively to the 9 but im sure a lot of ppl out there do.

Thats all my post was really about.

Well done private pang for sticking to your guns on this one - I quite agree that stats and facts are one thing, feel and subjective response quite another.

We all like different things about the cars we choose to buy and own and hearing different opinions is always worthwhile. Nobody treats anything said in here as gospel from the mount but it's good to have these views to consider when test driving the thing yourself.

And although hearing from people who own the car is always valuable, the views of someone who's just bought one and spent more money modding it are always going to have a large grain of salt as baggage. It's only human nature to love the thing you've just shelled out cash on.

Test drive the car! If you do pick one up and want more power without making it loud or a cop magnet...do a simple ECUtek reflash. The reflash alone makes over 305whp. BTW once you start modding the X feels similar to the 9 without as much turbo lag....youll love it

I know my friend 9 is awesome after a downpipe and ECUtek reflash.

But the image of me driving a white convertible 135 to school run and work is very tempting though. hehe.
