Question Oil Synthetic or Mineral

This has possibly been put in a thread somewhere before - but which is better synthetic oil or mineral?
Is there any difference to engine performance, wear etc?
I think I'd prefer to use a synthetic oil, but i don't want to risk killing the car?
What do you lot think?
Regards
Rick.

Hi Rick

'cos I am a really patient, helpful bloke here is a search covering the word 'oil' in the topics of threads in this, the Australian sub-forum. As you'll see , it's been covered a few times .

In the past, I have been known to be less helpful but I am a reformed man :o

If you had a bottle of Rotary Oil which is mineral based,

it'd say something about being a must for pre rotary engines.

Thus, Hymee's conclusion was...*DRUM ROLLS...*

ITS OKAY TO USE SYNTHETIC FOR THE 13B-MSP Renesis!

Sorry Rick-- that saved search got lost :o -- if you want to replicate, just search on "oil' in the topic and limit the search to this sub-forum. You will see oil is a rather religious issue....and even determined rotorhead's don't agree with Hymee's conclusion.

Me? I just use the rotary oil Mazda sells

You're a braver man than I am to mention oil in this regional forum when Tinbo is on the net, Rick -- even if he is a reformed character.

Read Rotarygod's contribution in the Tech Garage section of this forum -- it's an interesting comment on the mineral vs synthetic debate.

Cheers cobber

er...Mazda! (probably rebadged Castrol from the container, but it's not on Castrol's product list)

I note that right up front in Tech Garage, Rotarygod's comments on the synthetic versus mineral debate are featured. Hi coments make sense to me. Me? I've been on the synthetic thing since 10,000km (after the run in time). I've still got 4L of Mazda rotary oil, but I'll keep that for emergencies only, or for a forum member in the Brisbane area if they'd like it.

In the boot of my car is...

A Castrol Oil pack. Contents are: -
1 Litre bottle of Castro TXT Softtec LL01 SW-30 "Premium Synthetic Oil for prestige vehicles"
2 x Top Up Funnels (disposable)
2 x Sets of gloves (disposable)
4 x Dipstick Wipes (okay they're really paper towels - but it does say dipstick on them)
All sit inside a leather pouch with velcro.

Got it from my Mazda Dealer on last service.

I also have a litre of Mazda rotary oil sitting in the recess between the back seats.

What ever you use. Just check and change them frequently....!

Having said that I just forgot to check my oil!
