How much is it compared to the Mazda one? I thought the Mazda ones where pretty cheap.

IMHO that is more risky than putting on a catback. If the filter fails (and I don't know the real chances of that) and you lunch your engine, the warranty wont cover it. You would have to claim against Ryco.

Having said that, I have put many a Ryco filter on my older cars when I was younger.

Cheers,
Hymee.

hmm yeah I'd be concerned about warranty too.

A mate of mine did the usual oil change on his rally car pre event, drove down, got 4 ks into the 1st stage and lost oil pressure... He'd saved about 5 bucks by buying a cheap filter, but it didn't seal properly cos the O ring was crappy, and he probably didn't do it up mega mega tight like you should on something running between 5-7000 rpm constantly..

Result: he lunched the engine, the oil fliter manufacturer paid for a new set of gaskets, and that was it....

I don't think mazda would even consider paying for a thing if similar happened with your RX-8.. and you ain't gunna get a new Renesis paid for by the filter maker.

That said I've done heaps of oil changes on all my old cars + the rally car-- never had a failure yet..
