I've just confirmed from Bob Jane I can get the Corsas for $170. You're spot on mdr....$680.00 fitted and balanced....

The Regional manager from Boss Jane recently put them on his car as a 'trial' and also swears by them. He said its a quiet tyre, handles well and although he didn't get them balanced work just fine...

Some more research is in order, but if it means I can get a good tyre (for all purpose driving) which saves me $820 bucks I'll do it....

On the subject of cheap we've just got the look at that thing in our boot which Mazda calls a spare!

I've always bought "quality" tyres because above all else, I want grip and reliability. All tyre manufacturers try to cut corners to save a buck where they can, and some have learnt in recent years how it can come back to bite them back. If I like them and I know there will be a risk....you get what you pay for and tyres are no exception.

At some point of time these tyres must have been tested, and I will try to find out when, by whom and what the quality control was. I'd also like to know what the ply and speed rating is. I need to know this because I need a set of tyres that will also take me to the track so I can have a play.

At the end of the day I think it will depend on your driving situation and needs...

The above statement by the manager is as credible as the speeding motorists comment as to his speeding i have heard that line many a time .

Hope that helps. In wet they hold good I have not taken off the DSC to see how it handles with out help but so far so good and with all the rain we have had here on the GC streets have been flooded or running with water and it still sticks, so it channels the water pretty good.

I'm struggling to find a lot of detail on the tyres...but the best so far is its 'technical' association with a tyre company called CONTINENTAL of Germany, which sells about 70 percent of its production to 10 countries around the world, including: Australia, the Philippines and the Middle East. It appears the parent company is Goodyear, hence explains why they have been picked up by Bob Jane.

I found one comment on the Fordforum..." Corsas are coming out of Indonesia. Made by Elangperdana Tyre Industry. Most Korean tyres are at least decent, Malaysians are catching up fast, Taiwan is up there with the Koreans and Indonesians still have a bit of homework to do."

Keep checking in on these tyres, I have about a month to go on mine. I will buy the car a new set for its 1st birthday.

mdr got his tyres from BJ's on the Gold Coast (don't know exactly where) and my quote is from Caboolture north of Brisbane.

It shouldn't really matter which BJ you ring as they all stock them. I think Tweed Heads would be your closest....

Well today I bit the bullet on the tyres. I was right on the cusp of getting the Corsas for $680, when the manager talked me out of them for the Maxxis MA-V1 235/40ZR/18s.

The long and short of it...he said the Corsas had a more complex tread and was considered a noiser tyre than others (contrary to what we've been told) and he offered me the Maxxis, Nitrogen filled and a wheel alignment...wait for it...

Tyres - $796 ($199 each)
4 x wheel alignment - $50
Nitrogen fills - $20

TOTAL = $866

Not a great bargain but it was a case of better the devil I know. I've had Maxxis before and I was pretty happy with them then. Conversely the Corsa brand is still working their way into the market, and they would have done the same job, but the jury is still out and I erred on the side of caution.....(BTW thanks mdr for your input...I chickened out!)

I got a fresh batch of tyres (which was delivered right in front of me) and the job was done. These are a wider tyre than my Potenzas and so far I like the feel.....they are super quiet, and I love the grip and the feel....so far....

Sounds like you still got a good deal, good job!

As far as noise though the Corsas are super quite.

We should update this thread every few months on how the wear is on both sets.

No its first time for me Kall....I wave been curious about them for some time now and for $20 bucks I couldn't pass it up. I realise it's important that only nitrogen is used for top up.

I did some research and the RACQ have listed benefits including...

Reducing the tyre’s running temperature
Improving ride quality
Increases tyre life
Keeps tyre pressures more constant
Slows the rate of pressure loss (no need to check them for up to 4 months)
It doesn’t react with the tyre and rim materials

It sounds like you've got/had them...not a good idea...?

The difference in drive home from BJs really intriged me, so my wife drove us up the coast for a cruise this arvo. (independent reviewer!)

Boy what a difference. I didn't realise just how bad my Bridgestones were until now. Whisper quiet...and I mean whisper quiet. Cornerning was a solid as a rock and we have a much smoothr ride, the bumps are not felt as much as they were before.

The $116 difference with the Maxxis sounds like you got very good value mdr. I'm also very happy.....and as weve bought them at about the same time, an update every 5K or so to review their performance would be a good thing to see.

Egad, what a memory! I've just had a quick look at the previous discussions on the topic and theres arguments on both sides of the fence (when is this never the case!)

One things for sure. Science tells us I'll have about 6 times more consistent tyre pressure, which means a reduction in the chance of fatigue in the sidewalls, premature tread wear and of course impacts on fuel consumption.

If it also means not as many tyre checks need to be done, and I get some extra tyre life I'll be happy.

At the end of the day it comes down to a matter of personal choice.....
