Reading about the auto RX-8 engines being more prone to carboning up and (in some cases) failing because they change gear at relatively low revs and the engines don't get cleared out on a regular basis, what revs do most people here change gears on their manual 'box.
I've found that my manual with a cold engine / gearbox, 3000 rpm is about right, and once fully warmed up, 4500/5000 rpm is the norm, occasionally going to 6000/7000 rpm.
What's the opinion on this......are these revs enough to keep the dreaded carbon deposits away?

I generally keep the revs at 3K or under when cold and then shift at 4-6K depending on how quick I want to go at the time.

However, just about every time I drive it I'll redline it in 2nd or 3rd at least once. A redline a day keeps the mechanic away...

If you're allergic to redlining it, I'd at least take it to 8K on a regular basis. These things are built for it, so don't be afraid to give it a good rev.

 

Pretty much the same as Revolver - I stay under 4K until oil gets to 80 degrees after that I change gears in the 5 - 6K area. The car is my daily driver so during the week in city traffic not much opportunity to do changes in the rev band I would prefer. What I have found though is that when I do go for decent drives say at the weekend and I am able to get close to or redline the car always seems to drive better afterwards.

I also track the car and again after a day at the track the car always seems to drive better.

So in answer to OP question I believe it wouldn't do any harm to go even higher with the revs including redlining more than occasionally.
