Noise that AFE SS makes?
Hello, searching little bit of AFE short shifter, which i installed it today.
Noise it made at second gear was little bit annoying. ( 4th gear was alright, not a big deal )
It seems like people are still trying to find proper solution?
how ever...
i've noticed... if you take the gear **** off ( i've drove with gear **** off!! )
that noise was almost gone.
how can it be? hmm.. maybe having really light gear **** can be another solution?
Solutions?
1. Longer, thicker kevelar cup
2. put RP maxgear 75w90 ( i found this from some thread.. putting new gear box? :p )
3. Putting synthetic oils to reduce tranny noise?
Thanks in advance for replies!

this is what i did:
go to clark rubber
buy some noise insulating foam
cut them into oversized circles
skewer them onto gear stick into the plastic ring
use 3-4 peices
put the shift boot back on
replace gear ****
volia!
Thats what I did anyway

how about this option: enjoy the transmission sounds that your car makes, instead of trying to hide it.
I enjoy it. If I wanted no sounds, I'd be looking for something like a caddy.

with the stock **** is sounds about normal. with something like the voodoo ****, it can make a whirring noise. wrapping the threads with tape or shoving some foam in there might help. But like I said, this issue is totally overblown by people who want some sort of quiet economy car out of the rx-8 :P

And agreed about excessive fussiness. I don't like things that go creak or thump ( ) but some operating noises are par for the course I reckon.

The leather boot helped because the tabs at the top of the boot fit between the shifter and the ****.

Some get the noise, some don't.
I've posted a number of times about it, the causes, and the solutions (effective or not).
Search my posts (keyword "shifter", "noise", etc).

Certainly. I have more noise than auzoom for example
And with the search suggested by Gomez, there is a lot of transmission fluid thread.
Here are the older ones that is more targeted to it.
