Sydney is a horrible place for a three state and one territory meet.. The traffic is too much for the folk from the North... And some of those taxi drivers seem to be possessed by some alien being.. It takes all day to drive anywhere in Sydney (unless you are being driven by a cabbie with a death wish!).. Sorry guys, but my last experience of Sydney traffic was not pleasant,,

How about a national meet at Bathurst, Orange or Parkes??

yeah... what a party pooper :p ...
But we aren't talking next w/e... like Gibbo first suggested, late Nov might be the go.
I had a looksee at the Spirit of Tassie site and I worked out it would be better to drive down to Melb and get the ferry from there. Only because if we got the ferry from Syd, we'd have to do a whole week thing
Maybe us Sydneysiders can do a convoy/drive thing down to Melb together..

Ohhh goodness no, I wasn't thinking Sydney Sydney...more like outter Sydney at Worst...Just figured it would be great to get the QLDers there as well so Sydney is nice middle ground. Somewhere, someone is going be able to stay at home, in Sydney its the sydneysiders, but at least we can get some of the QLDers as well.

Wakefield Wakefield Wakefield :D

Hymee and Lock went to the track day last time which was organised by REACT ...

Timbo went there too!

Isn't Bathurst a suburb of Sydney??? :D I guess that I was thinking that Sydney, even outer Sydney is good for show, but if we want to drive some twisties (ask SCO) we need to get to the mountains..

ahhhhhhhh :o I have organised something to do July 3. Damn

How often do they run rotary track days up in Wakefield?

Maybe one of those will be nice for VIC, NSW and ACT RX-8 shoot out! :p Beers

Okay, okay - I consider myself as flame surfaced as a bad BMW!!!! :p :D :D

I probably did not express myself too well.

I'm not trying to pour too much cold water on the Tassie idea - some of you will remember that I spoke of the place with some enthusiasm earlier in the thread. I just reckon the logistics are too hard - getting a lot of people to agree on a time for that kind of commitment can be very difficult. But hey, I agree it's not impossible and if someone wants to set up a Tassie thread and do some long range planning I'll be happy to be proved wrong and will do my damndest to be a part of it.

As for the Sydney thing, as Auzoom said, we gotta pick somewhere and NSW has the advantage of the most cars and being central to both QLD and Vic. I wasn't trying to be selfish or a party pooper. Like it or not, it is the best location to attract the most cars. I appreciate the comments concerning Sydney as a poor spot for driving but I wasn't exactly suggesting a cruise around North Sydney guys . What I meant was that we could go somewhere like Eastern Creek or Oran Park on the Saturday and then do a road trip on the Sunday, say to the Mountains or elsewhere. If everybody reckons it's better to go to Bathurst or something like that I'm okay with that too.

The alternative is that we arrange an annual meet and take it in turns to host it. For example, have it in Vic one year, NSW the next, Qld the next, etc.

Okay, now get those flamethrowers out and give me another roasting!!! :p :D :D

For a Tasmanian trip, even 4-5 RX-8s will be a spectacular sight

Trans-state event needs some major lures, like a track day. Huge meet, like a Grand Prix with special passes, Bathurst, whatever.

It is hard to drive 10 hours and come up and chat while it is exactly what we are doing now :p

...

Wat about the Perth boyz

Ta, Kall.
The beautiful thing about this forum Kall, is that you've always got a right of reply!! :p :D

And you're always welcome in my passenger seat!! Hell, I'll even give you a drive if you promise to be good!! :D

As for the Perth guys - they should have thought of that when they got born/moved there!! :p Just kidding WA people!

Seriously, I agree the size of the country makes it damn hard to be fair on everyone - I was simply trying to offer a constructive suggestion.

Agreed re: Tassie and I hope it happens - I'm just not holding my breath! :p :D

Also agreed re: major lure required - that's why I suggested a track day on Saturday and a good cruise on the Sunday. I reckon 30-40 plus 8s at a good track would be lure enough for most of us. With those kind of numbers there is a chance we could get some Mazda involvement for prizes, etc.

Those coming from interstate could make it a four day weekend to allow for the travel time. If the NSW event is a success we could have the next national meet somewhere else the next year.

Hmmmm, might be more fun if you were always bad!!! :D

You got my promise on conversational topics - both suck.

Also doing it tough with a bad cold - hence wasting most of my morning on here when I should be working.

You with no voice!!! - as Conrad would say: "the horror, the horror!"

Pretty soon, I expect to hear Senator Coonan make comments in Parliament about this forum, and refer it's behaviour to some ...oh, who gives a fig! :p

I think wakefield is an awesome idea. They have on site accomodation, cafe. Its $3200 for the entire track for a Saturday. $50/night for accomodation and they hold up to 60 people (depending on if people are OK to share rooms - note to Kalli and Revolver ;-) ).

it what...7 hrs from Melbourne depending which way you came and how you drove (note to self...dont drive 230k's down the Hume ;-) )!

I would consider that an exellant option definately up there with a weekend cruise around Tassie.

What we need to do is

1) Hook up with REACT to get a rotary track day at Wakefield. No need to be RX-8 exclusive. But if really have payed up members here... then we can make this 8 only event.

2) Best if the Mazda is here and use them to advertise to non-rx8club people.

3) O/N accommodation at ONE spot. Night BBQ and entertainment.

Compare to that... Tassie trip has less to organise. But Wakefield has much much more fun.

BTW - auzoom did you read my PM??

I wonder if there is a motorrail service from Brisbane to (gasp) Sydney so that the QLD members can arrive in style and rested??? I know that the Finance Director would be interested in a combined rail trip and track days..

Are the rooms at the track sound proof - I am not sure I want to hear MissRx8 and Revlover (oops Revolver) talking all night.. :D

Kalli Wakefield raceway is in Goulburn (?spelling). It is 4 hours SW of Sydney, 3 hours NW from Canberra. The town is just off Hume in NSW. About 7-8 hour drive from the start of Hume.
