Talking Need Opinons on impending purchase!!

Hi everybody, I've been following this forum silently for more than a year now patiently waiting for the day I can join this club, i.e. own an rx-8. AS it happends I was at a dealership in Melb today and having spied a particular black 06 relavation model for a few weeks now I decided to test drive it. Being all caught up in the excitment I eventually placed a deposit.

Here comes the question and I hope some of you will be kind enough to give an opinion on.

Am I getting a good deal?? It's a black 06' Relavation Model with while interior + sunroof (my fav) it has 2500km on the clock, and it was registeed as a demo vehicle/sales manager's car in Jan 07. It comes with fender strakes, chrome cresents and an alarm. I've noticed a few scratches but I think they are only on the polish and not throught to the paint.

And the price I hear you ask? $51,884 drive away. It was suppose to be $51,880 but due to stamp duty calculations I incured an extra $4!!! I've already put a $2K deposit but I would really appreciate some opinions?

Is this a good price? Should I assume all the recalls/upgrades have been done?

I'm pretty excited!!

BTW I think this my first post....

You saved roughly $1 per km over what I paid.

Good buy and have fun.

Wow!! You remembered! and even what I wore? Yes I finally decided to take the leap. It was between a black 2nd model ready for some modding (i.e. FI) or a revelation model. I decide to go this route mainly because it's hard to find black 8's with all black interior.

(yes I absolutely love black 8's, and Taka just so you know, I've been drooling over your website for ages now... don't tell me gf.)

Anyways thanks for the opinions and encouragement. I'll keep you all posted regarding the purchase of my car.

BTW Any particular recalls on the '06 model? I've been going through the forum and I know about the 03/04 engine mount issues etc. I'm hoping that I can skip all that in the 06 model? any intel guys/gals?

good work! bet you are excited.... until you are trying to keep a BB clean.

i'd suggest to get the 8 checked out by another dealership service centre due to its "demo vehicle/service manger's vehicle" status (a demo vehicle has to be sold under 3000km, otherwise it will have to be sold as a 2nd hand vehicle). other than that, the factory warranty should take care of other things. is it too late.... can you get the dealership to try to "polish" out the scratches before you pick up?

you dont need to have an rx-8 to join this forum (this is a forum, not a car club). want to join a car club, try ozrenesis.

/ps. what with taka and his weird smilies in recent posts?

When you start doubt everything dealer sold to you, you prob have to check every new car with more than 10km on the odo. Warranty will do. Get them in writing that any wear and tear down the track maybe due to the way it is driven in the dealership

a brand spanker and a demo/manager's vehicle isnt the same. you'd be surprised how dealership managers, car salesmen, and their friend/relative "test drive" demo/manager vehicles. i know that, because i used to get calls to see if i want to go into their dealerships to "test drive" cars.

most likely they will not agree to replace wear and tear items on your car... whether it is under warranty or not.

/ps. why did you change my forum username to my first name?

I thought it is more personal. ...

Demo cars has variation of conditions I know that, spotting a good one is the key. Since he has been looking at the same car for about a year. I am sure he has asked at some stage WHO have been driving it.

Change gear oil, see any big filing coming off, insist on compression test and ask for result to see the condition of engine, check feathering of tyres and scoring of the rotor.... you can tell how the car has been driven. Coz that is how I check my car after track days.

Part of the condition of purchase was a full detail, inside and out. I've been assured that any scratch that isn't through the paint will go.

And BTW Ezzy, my gf recently got a Black VW Jetta, and yes keeping it clean is a bitch but have a bunch of black cars around for a cruise is pretty sweet.

I guess I could ask for compression test but would they really do it?

Correction Taka, I've been looking for a year but I only found this car 2-3 weeks ago.

Anyway I'm going to try to get some finance this week then organise some insurance. Sigh good times, good times. (I'm already thinking of modds... ).

It is a tradition in Japan to list the compression test result of the rotary engine when they are sold in the second hand market. It is proportional to the condition of the engine. Of course it is not necessary, but it is something that all dealer can do.... otherwise how do they do diagnostic test on RX-8s. Do not tell me they share one among dealers..... any rotary specialist should have one IMO

Talking Welcome Welcome Welcome!

How excited are you! Congratulations on getting an awesome deal! Look forward to seeing your car at the Nats.!!

I bought a demo as well, saved $$ and hey it's still going and all is good! The dealer knows I would not be happy if it broke and so he has gone to great lengths to make sure the car is A1 which it is!

I remember the excitement and the sheer thrill of driving away for the first time in my 8! There is nothing like it. There has been nothing like it since for me! Everything else pales into insignificance!

BB is a lovely colour but I am a SS girl myself...with our dust storms and lack of rain the car still looks passable even though its filthy!

Look forward to reading your posts and seeing some pics of the car.

Welcome aboard...now you can have more metal around you and be safer than on a bike!

Stupid old me thought they just plug it into a computer and wait for it to tell you to change the oil of something? I'll try asking for one. Cheers!

Welcome harleyqn.

Yep, sounds like a good deal to me. I also picked up a demo and although Eric's warning is a good one, provided you check the thing out thoroughly I don't think you can lose at that price.

Enjoy.

Good onya harleyqn

I bought a demo too - with 10,000km on the clock so a lot more than yours. Also cost a lot more than yours!

2,500km is not much, and there's not much test drivers can do in an urban setting that the car can't handle, IMHO. Mind you I regret not checking the condition of tyres and brake pads before driving mine away...

Will
